Yokoshin/YDC new members and top

Recommended Posts

I think there has been another thread dealing with this, but "YDC" can't be searched on the forum.
2 new ones for the YDC as of today, making it 11 members:
One a composer (the 2nd to become a YDC member) and head of the JApan Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and publishers JASRAC, Shun(ichi) Tokura (66): "The DNA of a Japanese becoming yokozuna mustn't vanish".

The 2nd is Masayuki Yamauchi (67), emeritus professor at Tokyo University, he was absent today.

Kitamura has ended his tenure as Chairman and will be replaced by Hironori Yano. "A Yokozuna is sumo's symbol and as such should act with dignity and correctly outside the dohyo as well. I'd like them to think of themselves as the ones who are pulling Sumo forward," said the new guy. The old chairman guy lamented that all the wild stuff happened during his 2 year tenure.. "I'm glad it's over.." he said.

The rikishi-kai decided as of Feb. 8th on 丹呉泰健 Yasutake Tango (67) as new YDC member: chairman of the board of directors of Japan Tobacco inc., former undersecretary of financial affairs in the finance ministry. Kitamura completed his term of office and left the YDC, the number of members  is still 9. http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/201902080000580.html

Went to a conference called Tokugawa Ieyasu and Japan 1.0 yesterday and it was given by professor Yamauchi Masayuki who's mentioned in a post  just above. I had no idea he was a YDC member until he mentioned it at the end of the conference. He even gave a copy of the Nagoya banzuke to the people who attended the conference which was such an amazing surprise. I was so happy aha. They are not all grumpy old men after all ! ;-)

Did the YDC meet after Hatsu? I haven't seen any coverage, if so.

As always - except during Corona times

The YDC is pleased with Terunofuji: perfect shin-gi-tai combination, nobody criticized Kirishima: Hakuho and Takanohana had that as well

The 2nd is Masayuki Yamauchi (67), emeritus professor at Tokyo University

With the session yesterday, the terms in the YDC ended for chief Yamauchi and for Tokura. Yamauchi had his wish fulfilled to have a new yokozuna under his lead, but only at the last opportunity

On 27/03/2023 at 22:24, Akinomaki said:

YDC today in the kokugikan with new top Yamauchi; he is sure that a new yokozuna will appear during his 2 year term - no pressure on Terunofuji to enter next basho, they want him to return top fit

maybe he would have preferred someone else though

On 27/11/2023 at 12:43, Akinomaki said:

the YDC mainly commented on Hoshoryu's behaviour (not what they want to have as hinkaku for a yokozuna hopeful) - chief Yamauchi comments to the press o

the problem bout

slightly before he had praise though

YDC in Tokyo, chief Yamauchi talked to the media - worried about Terunofuji, delighted about Hoshoryu "opening the way to yokozuna with his own hands" - and they hope for Hakuoho to become a yokozuna in the future

Comments about hinkaku this time came from Tokura o (probably from others as well), who will vanish now from the YDC and with him hopefully a good deal of this opinion

Oshima is quick to the top, but as ex-NSK superior, he's just the man. So we'll likely have him as YDC chief for the next 4 years (now limited to 2 terms)
