Kintamayama 47,191 Posted December 10, 2014 (edited) The cruise is under way from today till Saturday. 750 passengers boarded the 50,142 ton Hichou 2 and will be on board for two nights and three days. "It's as if I'm in a movie..I'd like to show as much of the good side of sumo that I can," said Hakuhou. Average age of the passengers- 66 and the cruise was sold out (for prices-see above). There will be talk shows with the rikishi as well as shiko and other sumo movement demonstrations, and chanko will be available as well. Ikioi sang some jinku before the departure and Toyonoshima had some wise words to say: "I'd like to show that the size of the rikishis' hearts is the size of the open sea!" kuroimori 1,634 Posted December 10, 2014 I hoped the name of the boat would be Chiyomaru or Musashimaru...
torquato 1,075 Posted December 10, 2014 I hoped the name of the boat would be Chiyomaru… :-D Perhaps the boats with this name were already booked. I wonder how many here know that 'maru' is a typical suffix for boat names...
Johnofuji 232 Posted December 11, 2014 I would like to see them re-create these scenes from the decks of the battleship Asama in 1934 but I bet all we get are likely to get are shots on twitter of one of them posing like Rose on the Titanic. Not the sketch scene I hope. (I'm glad I finally found a reference to when theres shot were as we originally thought it may have been during WWII) Ishiura said one of his Nichidai mates had a grandfather who did sumo on the deck of the Yamato but I knew this wasn't the Yamato because the guns were too small.) Johnofuji 232 Posted December 11, 2014 ha ha Poor buggers. I got a message from onboard and the rikishi are bored silly -especially the tsukebito who are not so interested in old grannys.
Kintamayama 47,191 Posted December 13, 2014 (edited) The Hichou 2 has returned safely to port, returning its valuable passengers in one piece. Everyone seemed to have had a good time. Ikioi was seen joining in the karaoke and dancing. Hakuhou was happy. " We were able to get closer to the fans than in a honbasho and jungyo, and that was what I enjoyed the most. I wonder if we managed to bring in new fans. I'd like to do it next year as well.." he said. "Hichou 2's sake was excellent. I'll have to remain strong and gambarize, otherwise I don't think they will invite me next year.." said an unusually cheerful Kisenosato.
