Bench World Cup 2014

Recommended Posts

The matches I am refioji-ing are:

Cup: Kuroimori vs Rubensan

Saucer: Kamogawa vs Nekonishiki

Don't forget to mark your chosen extra team E1 and your ® and © teams too if you're lucky enough to still have them!

Deadline is basically as soon as possible...but I'll accept entries up to the kick-off of the Brazil-Chile match as we obviously have limited time.

Cheers...

Pandaazuma

PS. To all players...be careful not to send your line-up to the wrong refioji! One person has already sent their line-up to me in error!

Jezz...I'm a bit confused with your comments above as there is no mention of Group C in the list of second round match-ups...I guess this has something to do with your comments about not sending your line-up to yourself. I understand that, of course, but you have Group D matches where Group C ones should be and I'm not sure if this is just a typo or not.

I'm guessing I'm fighting Daineko and I should send my line-ups to Doitsuyama?? Right?? Just want to make sure!

Cheers...and apologies if I'm missing something obvious (very likely).

Group C Round 3

Maguroyama 0 3 shimodahito
Ivory Coast © BREAK GOAL Argentina
Argentina W W Belgium
Portugal W W Switzerland
Bosnia W W Portugal
Japan ® L 2 GOALS Colombia ®
Belgium W BREAK Croatia
Chile L W Greece
Iran L L Ghana ©
Australia L D Costa Rica
USA L L South Korea

COMMENTS
Maguroyama: I feel I'm in a position to gamble a bit and so it's time for the Elephants to step up their game. In this WC of shockers you can't really trust anyone, but "normally" Argentina and Portugal should be stronger than their African opponents. Japan plays Colombia who are ensured of advancement and thus may slack off a bit. But what do I know...
shimodahito: my high M pick Greece roster plays league in Spain, Italy, Germany, Turkey, England, Scotland. This round faith pick: Switzerland. This round no-faith pick: none. Maguroyama is my last opponent. Our #1, #2, #3 (ARG-BEL-POR) teams are the same so the mid line-ups will decide. I look forward to the match.
Refioji Pregame: Maguroyama is gambling big with Ivory Coast who need only need a draw - seems reasonable. But having possibly demotivated Portugal and Bosnia so high is a real risk - and he has Belgium quite low, maybe fearing a B-team? Shimodahito's lineup is comparatively risk-free.
Refioji MbM:

Mon: That's quite a slow start with a lowly losses. Shimodahito has only one loss but higher placed.

Tue: The first half ends in big drama just copying real life as Greece's stunning late winner ensures the chain break for Maguroyama in the top slot. He can only hope for a 0:0 draw but a LOT must happen even for that

Wed: Argentina scores the first goal of the match, already ensuring a win for shimodahito. Switzerland keeps the avenue for possible more goals alive.

Thu: A lot of games were played today with shimodahito winning all his remaining high slots to arrive at the killer ® vs ® matchup, scoring two more goals. Of course Belgiums win also means the game-ending chain break in the next slot: Final score: 3:0 for shimodahito.

Jejima 1 0 Pandaazuma
Germany W W Argentina
Switzerland W W Belgium
England © GOAL BREAK Ivory Coast ®
France D W Netherlands
Ivory Coast BREAK D England
Bosnia W D Algeria
Colombia W D Ecuador
Greece ® W L Japan ©
Algeria D L South Korea
South Korea L L Nigeria

COMMENTS
Jejima: What a nightmare of a World Cup... I actually expect Germany to draw with the USA (would benefit both sides), but I don't imagine they would lose, so they can have top slot. At number 3, England really need to pull off at least a draw to give me a chance in this match.

Pandaazuma: While my ® team is likely to beat Jejima's, he has six likely winners in his line-up to my three, meaning I'm going to need luck big time here. My only option is to go for it and put my ® team a little lower than I would normally in the hope of breaking my opponent's chain against one of his less-likely-to-win teams...and hope that my top lads win and keep my chain intact. Good luck, Jezz!
Refioji Pregame: Jejima is lucky this time - he can't break his chain again with England © in a L-L scenario as Pandaazuma helped him out by placing his ® team in the sme slot. Pandaazuma is seing a lot of winners in Jejima's squad but we will know only after the round is over, no?
Refioji MbM:

Mon: This bout starts slow too with Jejima playing quite passively. ;-)

Tue: Jejima picks up the pace considerably (even with the surprisingly low placing of winning Colombia) and thanks to the ignominous Ivory Coast his © team placement is a full success for a change as his draw ensures a goal plus chain break in slot 3 if the bouts goes this far.

Wed: Pandaazuma has not much room for error with a certain chain break in slot 3, but he scores a slot 1 win with Argentina.

Thu: Germany comes through for Jejima, making the chain-breaking and goal-scoring draw from his © team a dream scenario becoming reality. That's the only goal of the game as Jejima missed out on a LOT more goals due to bad placement. Pandaazuma couldn't have played much better, he just had to few winners in his team, a feeling I can totally share with him.

Group C Final Standings

They are very straight-forward with everyone beating the lower team(s) in the table, so just the goals are of interest:

1. shimodahito (9 points) 6:1 goals

2. Maguroyama (6 points) 3:3 goals

3. Jejima (3 points) 1:2 goals

4. Pandaazuma (0 points) 1:5 goals

This means I will be the refioji for the Cup match shimodahito (C1) vs. Terarno (D2) and for the Saucer match Jejima (C3) vs. Harumataikai (D4) (unless I have the standings all wrong - no official group D results available yet I think). Please send your entries preferably by PM until 6 hours before the first game (as usual) and don't forget your extra team (only one please).

Group B Round 3 end result

Well, the last round has end, too. I hope I calculated everything well, if not, please tell me. The end order of the players is matching with Jejima's list of new bouts, so there must not be a big mistake in my calculations.

Belgium won against South Korea, while (my representative) Russia played a draw with Algeria. Chishafuwaku scores one more goal, and ScreechingOwl as well.

Group%20B%20Standing%20-%202014.06.27.jp

So chishafuwaku finished the 3 rounds with impressive 9 points, winning all the three matches. On the second place ScreechingOwl finishes with 4 points, having one match in each category, the third is KikoCookie with 2 draws and 1 loss, while Fujiko is on the fourth place, having a draw and 2 losses.

Group%20B%20Round%203%20result.jpgtable has been corrected on June 29

This means that I say goodbye now to ScreechingOwl and Fujiko. Thanks for the game, it was good to play with you.

We meet soon with chishafuwaku and KikoCookie.

I made it safely to Bulgaria after 16 hours.

The time difference between my residence in the US and Bulgaria is 10 hours, so I already feel the jetlag.

I'll work on the BWC tomorrow.

chishafuwaku vs Chocshoporyu

chishafuwaku

1. Belgium (E1)
2. France
3. Netherlands ®
4. Brazil
5. Greece
6. Mexico

Comment:

My opponent will probably choose Argentina (E1) and will bet...

1. Brazil ®
2. Argentina (E1)
3. France
4. Netherlands
5. Greece

The fact that I have 6 to 5 does not seem an advantage in this case.

My My greatest hope: CHILE!

Chocshoporyu

1. Argentina (E1)
2. France
3. Holland Netherlands
4. Brazil ®
5. Greece

Saucer match

KikoCookie vs Jakusotsu

KikoCookie

1. Germany (E1)
2. Colombia
3. Greece
4. Switzerland
5. Algeria ©

Comment: Sometimes you're a pulp writer, sometimes you're Chaucer; sometimes you're the cup, this time I'm the saucer.
Dad eeked by me for the win in game three, so there will be no living with him now (not that there was much before).
This round looks even worse. Ah well, as Spain says, there's always 2018....

Jakusotsu

1. Germany (E1)
2. Netherlands
3. Uruguay
4. USA
5. Switzerland ©

Comment: Fighting for a saucer?? Oh well, why not…

Saucer match:

Daineko: 1. Brazil, 2. Netherlands, 3. Costa Rica, 4. Uruguay ®, 5. USA ©, 6. France (E1), 7. Switzerland

Comment: Suarez is screwing things up for my team.

vs

Pandaazuma: 1. Germany (E1), 2. Argentina, 3. Belgium, 4. Netherlands, 5. Nigeria, 6. Algeria, 7. None

Comments: I am fighting Daineko: my team looks to have the easier matches. My opponent has one more team than me (Germany or Argentina as the extra pick, most likely) and also still has the R and C teams (both underdogs) so I'm just hoping my easier schedule carries me through toward the vaunted saucer. Good luck!

Refioji: Daineko has length in his squad, and both of his specialist teams. He has chosen a rather surprising France as his extra pick - and then put them far down the line-up. Pandaazuma is hoping that 'quality' will see him through. I am guessing that the third team for each may be the key.

Cup match

Saruyama: 1. Brazil, 2. Germany (E1), 3. Belgium, 4. Netherlands, 5. Greece ©, 6. Mexico

vs

Maguroyama

1. Argentina, 2. Netherlands (E1), 3. Belgium, 4. USA, 5. Chile, 6. None

Comment: Only three favorites, Im sure my esteemed opponent Saruyama has at least that, probably 4 or 5. So maybe it will be up to some surprise that I might win. Going to try for sure!

Refioji: Belgium is greyed out for both line-ups, as it is both players' 3rd choice. With Netherlands in Saruyama's 4th slot, compared to Maguroyama's 2nd slot, I think this gives Saruyama the edge. However, if Chile does something special tonight, and at least takes the match with Brazil to extra-time, then I think Maguroyama will be in control.

Quarter-final Penalty takers.

There seems to be some confusion about this....

I just want one list of eleven teams in order that you think they will reach the semi-finals. This will be your penalty takers for the quarter-finals. The deadline is kick-off for the first knock-out match between Brazil and Chile (in less than 8 hours time.)

I am waiting for penalty takers from the following...

Achiyama

andonishiki

Chabonowaka

Daineko

Fujiko (I know - I will wake her up in a second)

Jejima (How embarrassing)

kamogawa

KikoCookie

Pitinosato

ScreechingOwl

shumitto
