Cup/Saucer KO First Round

shimodahito 0 0 Terarno
Germany (E1) D D Brazil (E1)
Argentina D D Argentina ©
Greece D D Belgium
Belgium BREAK D Costa Rica ®
Colombia ® W W Colombia
Costa Rica D D USA
Switzerland D D Switzerland

COMMENTS
shimodahito: La Albiceleste vs Schweizer Nati & Ethniki vs Los Ticos -- hope I got them in the right order! My opponent Terarno has a nearly identical squad with his Yanks and my Ethniki being the only difference. Will he pick GER or BRA as his E1?
Terarno: I go for the weak choice of Brazil, abandoning all panache.
Refioji Pregame: shimodahito is having a lot of faith in Greece which probably makes this game the decider.
Refioji MbM:

Sat: Colombia won, but shimodahito somewhat missed the chance for his ® team by placing it rather low.

Sun: Not much happening as the only match Costa Rica vs. Greece was drawn.

Mon: Only one draw today, but in the important slot 1 position, making it equal. We'll have to wait until the end for a decision.

Tue: Two more thrilling draws leave this Cup match in a dizzy of draws as you can see. Shimodahito almost scored a goal with his ® team but Terarno made a fantastic defense with his own ® team, breaking the aite's chain just before that. So this match ends in a tense 0:0 just like most real games. On to extra time.

I don't think this one has been scored correctly. I have triple checked it, as I don't think Doitsuyama would make a mistake...

But, this is the way I see it....

Shimodahito Terarno

Germany-draw Brazil-draw – no goals, no chains broken

Argentina-draw Argentina ©-draw – Terarno scores a goal, due to © status. No chains broken

Greece-draw Belgium-draw – no goals, nothing broken

Belgium-draw Costa Rica ®-draw, no goals scored, but Terarno’s chain is broken, thanks to his ® team.

Colombia ®-win Colombia-win – Shimodahito scores a goal thanks to his ® team.

The last two matches end in draws, so Shimodaito never has his chain broken.

So it is 1-1 after 90 minutes, with the whole chain used.

I agree with Doitsuyama's scoring of extra time, so the match ends up 3-2 to shimodahito. (Please can someone double check!)

(Also noticed that the Jejima vs Harumataikai should have been broken with Greece ® drawing on slot 6, with extra time starting with Jejima's Algeria - but there is no change to the extra time results.)

When making your picks, delete all teams already out of the competition. You keep your (E1) pick - please remember to label it (along with your ® and © teams, should you be lucky enough to still have either or both on your squad.) You also get another extra free pick. Please label it (E2). This is the final team that you will be allowed to add to your squad this tournament, so pick carefully.

Note to refiojis - please make your deadline for entry as late as possible. The next match is France vs Germany at friday 4th July, 5pm Brazil time.

If you have a drone, please use the identical line-up to the one used for the round of 16 (with teams already out removed). Please add the lowest ranked team (as of the start of this competition) not already in the squad to the end of the line-up, as their (E2 team)

For your convenience, this is the order....

Costa Rica

Netherlands

Colombia

France

Belgium

Germany

Argentina

Brazil

The rules for the quarter-finals are identical to the round of 16 rules.

This is copied and pasted from the old Euro 2012 thread. I can't see anything wrong with it. So this is what we are using.

Semi-final penalty takers

Please send me your penalty takers for the 'semi-finals' matches (NB: Not the quarter-finals - I already have those!).

Please send me a list of all 8 teams still in the competition in order of likelihood that they will reach the *finals*.

This penalty shoot-out will be done a little differently.

Firstly, if the team reaches the finals, that is the equivalent of two penalty goals. If it loses in the semi-finals, it is just one penalty goal. The sudden-death element of the penalty shoot-out starts from the fourth selection onwards (instead of the usual sixth).

The deadline for sending me your semi-final penalty takers, is the kick-off time of the first match of the quarter-finals.

I.e. France vs Germany on Friday 4th July, 5pm Brazil time

OK, thanks, then Chijanofuji and Pitinosato, please send me your line-ups until the usual 7am Brazil Time/7pm Japan Time on July 4.

I already got it from Rubensan. And if I understood well (I didn't read ALL the messages in the topic entirely), Chabonowaka is droning, right?

If any player does not send me a PK line-up in time, I will use the first 8 on the list that I have for QF PK takers.

*****************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Edit: I am going to change the tie-breaker rules for PKs for the QFs and the SFs a little. The added bold text is the change. I think this is fairer.

Penalties. If there is still a tie after extra time between the two players, we go to a penalty shoot-out. For this, the list of 11 teams already received by me will be used.. There will be a penalty shoot-out, with penalties being scored based on whether the players' predictions come true (of the teams progressing to the next round). This will follow regular penalty shoot-out rules (I.e. there will be five penalties* apiece, using the first teams in the list, followed by sudden death play-off, if needed, with the next six teams. If need be, we go back to the first five teams in the list again to continue the sudden death play-off. If there is still no decision after this, I will use the the list of Penalty takers from the previous round - using the same rules for that round of PKs. (For the case of the SF, if there is still a tie after using the QF penalty takers, I will go even further back to the round of 16 PK takers.)

If there is still a tie after all of that, the player with the better disciplinary record will progress. If still undecided, the player with the better results at the group stage will progress. If still no decision, the player with the lowest ranked ® team (as per the original rankings based on bookmaker odds) progresses.

* Please note for Semi-finals, there will be three teams as outlined above.

I agree with your corrections for shimodahito-Terarno. I must have looked in the wrong table for the first mistake and got the break wrong around in the second mistake. I apologize for these mistakes which luckily don't have a different winner.

But I don't think there is this mistake in Jejima-Harumataiki. The slot 6 is ® vs (n), no chains broken with the ® drawing and the (n) losing, since empty slots count as losses. So there's no break and extra time starts with slot 1.

I edited the original now to correct the errors and better illustrate the empty slot losses.

this game is fantastic - really keeps me going these days, although my new job allows me almost zero extra time.

Jejima must put in well over 100 hours into this...

we should all head to HK with cradles or containers of beer for him !!

So in the quarters the #1 and #2 of the Golden Boot ranking will meet.

to be refioji'ed by the famous colourful well-experienced Achiyama, who is himself a TOP 6 player in that ranking...

that's kind of Ibrahimovic refiojing a match b/ween Messi & Neymar !!

Here in lovely Singapore, most of the locals don't care much about football.

But the foreign community does, so it's a MUST to watch in a bar or pub, especially as the games start at midnight or 4am...

C'mon Deutschland - let's swallow some frogs !!

Yes, really, thanks, I got it finally. Now I can see (sorry, it was totally confusing for me). Jakusotsu's chain was broken, therefore Algeria's draw is a goal against Switzerland's draw. Right?

I accidentally marked Algeria in my table with red as if it lost (after 90 min.), and this caused my confusion. Huh, hopefully the next round will go better.

Yes, normally the 5th slot would be 0-0 (© draw against © draw), but because Jakusotsu's chain is already broken his Switzerland loses its special status, which allows KikoCookie's Algeria to score a goal.

D+ and D- are matches decided by penalty shoot out, valued as 2 points for the winner and 1 point for the loser (unlike the usual 3/0 split for matches decided in regulation or extra time). The S column at the far right indicates the section players were in for the round. (1 = Cup, 5 = Saucer, the other numbers will appear as the Cup section gets broken up further in subsequent rounds.) Players marked in red lost in the Saucer section and drop out of the competition.

An almost perfect result for chishafuwaku, winning all 31 matches and needing to go through only one shootout on the way (vs Kaiomitsuki), and one more extra time session (vs Furanohana). The top 13 players have created an exact ranking order this time, with each of them winning against everybody below and losing to everybody above. Chocshoporyu, Chijanofuji and Harumataikai were unfortunate in that their opponents are also part of this group of 13, resulting in losses despite strong lineups.

The bottom part of the table is dominated by Saucer teams, making up 10 of the lowest 14 performances in this round. Doitsuyama finished with the mirror record to chishafuwaku's, losing all 31 games (26x regulation, 4x extra time, 1x shootout).

Results summary for regulation time:

shimodahito has broken the 100-win barrier and extends his lead to more than a full point as all his 3 immediate pursuers scored worse in the 4th round. Top scorer chishafuwaku jumps ahead of that trio and takes over second place, while Andonishiki stays in third and keeps in touch. Everybody else is already quite a way back now and may have to hope that shimodahito stumbles big and doesn't make it to the final round (which would cost him a scoring opportunity).

(Note: The D- column includes both regular draws from the group stages as well as shootout losses from the knockouts as they're both worth 1 point.)
