Thanks Akinomaki . Ishiura told me a few months ago that he was happy to take it slow and steady but I suppose when he has Hakuho to show him some extra smooth moves he can't help but to continue to rocket up the banzuke ---until he meets the larger more experienced opponents in Juryo. That right hand looks like it might slow him down but I am looking forward to some more dynamic performances. He has a great technical repertoire so I'm sure he can manage without that hand.

Today Endo had his first ever degeiko (off-camera), at Izutsu-beya with Kakuryu, his possible day 1 opponent. According to the 2 they did 20 bouts in a row together. Kakuryu praised his good sumo, Endo: “The ozeki was just strong. Me getting overpowered went on an on.”
Oitekaze-oyakata had asked for it, both oyakata are on good terms and the 1 year the oyakata stopped Endo is over.

Endou entertained new recruit Kawabata (starting Haru at Makushita tsukedashi 15) among others two days ago at home and was 20-1, but lost to his young counterpart, who followed him through high School and college. "He's strong.. We trained together in High School and at college so I really missed him.." commented Endou later. Regarding his condition at theis early stage of preparations- "Some good, some bad.."

Endou went to train with Kakuryuu again today. He lost all his 20-ish matches. " I did as much as I wanted to. I was told by the Ozeki that my tachiai was much better today and that the rest will follow with practice. I'd like to use that as an incentive and gambarize!!" said a smiling Endou. He was covered in sand and was swearing a lot, but that's OK.

Injured Myougiryuu had 19 bouts against Makushita and under opponents and won them all. He will soon start training with Sekitori as well. He is ranked the lowest he was (Maegashira 10) since entering Makuuchi. "These accidents happen. It was a good learning experience.." he said.

Sekiwake Goueidou is ranked as sekiwake for the 12th consecutive time, and that is the second best ever. He trained yesterday against the visiting Kasugano beya lads including Tochiouzan and was 22-9. "I was thinking only of moving forward," he said. As for his expected first meeting against Endou- "I can beat him.."

I found it useful to register for free at Asahi- and Mainichi-shimbun to read without charge all the rest of sumo articles they have hidden behind a login procedure.

Asahi lets one read 3 articles a day for free, that is more than enough for the whole sumo content.

Mainichi gives a week of full access also to the database of articles up to one year ago, but even after that the articles in the categories “shimen” and “area” can be read – and the pictures are all free to access.

Not really, since Goueidou could be 22-9 and Tochiouzan could be 22-10 at the same time, since they did not exclusively face each other, if you read closely.

Kakuryu and Endo today both were on degeiko to Tokitsukaze-beya, Kakuryu was 19-1 with Toyonoshima, Tokitenku, Sotairyu, Asasekiryu etc., 8-1 of that with Endo, who was 7-2 with the others.

Endo: “In primary school I trained with middle school, in middle school with high school or university students. I have done it with those superior to me. This is similar. I was given a valuable experience.”

Ichinojo: the Mongolian Endo ? Towards becoming the first nomad as sekitori, born 450km away from the capital.

During the 4 years he has been in Japan now he hadn't visited Mongolia at all: “I want to invite my parents to Japan.”

On the 10th he injured his right knee and did only light keiko that day:

I hope it’s nothing serious… knees are a very dangerous zone.
