longest bout ?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering which is the longest bout that you remember watching.

i guess it will include Kotonowaka :-( but i wanted to know if there is a certain record.

i think i saw a video of a Konishiki bout sometime that had a mizu-iri and then a couple of minutes more before he won.

anyone interested to chip in his memories?

There was one in the past year with TWO mizu-iri before somebody won. I don't remember who was in the torikumi. It must have been over 8 minutes... :-(

I guess you were thinking of a bout between Kotomitsuki and Musoyama. This bout had two mizuuri, and eventually a torinaoshi was decided.

Kotomistuski won that second bout. I don't rememeber exactely when this bout occured, but it happened during Takanohana's kyujo.

Regards,

Chienoshima

This bout was on day 6 of Natsu Basho 2001. You can see it here (It is divided in 6 parts, because it took over 15 minutes).

Interesting related, but non-sumo, Google find:

Longest Wrestling Bout

The longest recorded wrestling bout was one of 11 hr 40 min, when Martin Klein (1885-1947, Estonia representing Russia) beat Alfred Asik

In Shanghai today, there was a very rare mizuiri (for a koen/jungyo..) in the second round bout between Takamisakari and Kotoryuu. After a 4 minute stalemate, a mizu-iri was called, much to the delight of the audience. Then, Sakari won it with Yorikiri in a few seconds.

Mienoumi & Futagodake. Many mizu-iri and ended up tied the game. I am sure its in record somewhere. They didn't move much and it was rather boring watching...

Yeah, usually a mizu-iri involves the two rikishi just standing leaning locked against each other, sort of boring. But a surprising kimarite can come at any second...

thanks for all the replys but i guess there is no "official" record of a longest bout cause i am certain that it would be mentioned by some distinguised members of our forum....

and they say that sumo is a quick sport........

what was wrong with these guys? was it a good match or just two guys sleeping in the dohyo?

It seems to me that was Wakanohana I against Chiyonoyama.

Will have a look at the vid again soon - could be wrong but always worth watching again.

Cheers for letting me know.

Just watched it again - and indeed it was as you said - my mistake.

Declared a draw. (Blinking...)
