Octofuji 414 Posted August 28, 2023 Channel 5 (UK) showed episode 1 of Jane McDonald: Lost in Japan on Friday. It's similar in format (although not in style) to James May's recent series. At 28:00 on the video she visits the Tonkatsu Yokozuna restaurant (mentioned in Jokoryu's retirement thread) and has a brief go in the ring (the usual "pushing a brick wall" experience). Jokoryu looks to have slimmed down a lot, although I'm guessing from the retirement pictures that he was losing weight already while he was in Makushita. Prior publications had numbers ranging from 30-35 Kitanofuji is one of the only 2 promotion with the least number of wins (28), it was so unexpected that he only had 45 minutes to prepare for the ceremony and ex-Sadanoyama stood in for Kokonoe. Apparently the heya is famous for it's high quality of sumo cuisine, and Kagayaki has said that it was a major factor in his joining the stable. Among the dishes prepared, in additional to the standard chanko-nabe, were seared maguro and a delicious okonomiyaki. Hopefully @Akinomaki can find a video to share.
