Big finish!

Recommended Posts

Takekaze - ipponzeori (great rare kimarite...one-armed shoulder throw)

Toki - nearly KOs Robocop with a couple vicious harite (drew blood)

Hakuho - plays the matador (and gets 12 wins to tie Taiho for most wins as shin-nyumaku)

Asashoryu - smokes Wolf-cub to claims 40 kensho to beat their old record of 32 (senshuraku, last basho). Wins playoff to take 7th career yusho and 3rd this year.

Any reports on Takamisakari? He sure looked punch-drunk when he walked back down the hanamichi after losing to Toki...a bit wobbly (Getting punched...)

He always limps and whines and makes exaggerated face gestures every time he loses. He'll get over it.

I think this is being unfair to him.

He was wacked pretty good, and was wobbly getting up.

The amount of blood on his face is, I recall, the most I have seen in several years in sumo.

But sumo is a contact sport, so I dont think he was greatly hurt by it.

Not hurt any worse than in keiko with Shoryu :-P

i would even say that we don't see blood often enough in sumo. The clashing at the tachi-ai and the tsupparis are enough to make anyone bleed from time to time...

the last one i remember to bleed was Azuma against Asashoryu....

Well, a simple look at the movie site at Sakari's losses will reveal that he ALWAYS gets up limping or something. Just a fact.

Ditto - the boy cries wolf so often that one day noone is going to listen.

That could be the day he is face down in Musoyama's mawashi, mouth bleeding, chin shaking, tears welling up, legs splayed, bottom itching but hands groping around at Musoyama's thighs trying to get out - unable to scratch that same botty - all after being put out following a huge charge at Hokutoriki who sidestepped brilliantly and in doing so won his first yusho.

He acts - pure and simple - and if that's what the baaa-san want that is what he serves up - by the bucket load.

May not win me any fans but when I watch his fights I cannot lose. He wins, he is often using pretty good sumo which I enjoy - he loses and he puts on that 'cry baby' face and has possibly taken a whacking in the process which I enjoy.

Crucify me for saying how I see it but that is how I see it and I find it ironic how some of the anti-Shoryu types herein criticize his impurities in behavior remain silent on this rikishi's antics.

Actually - if anyone has heard him speak JUST after a bout - he was on NHK radio just after the Taikai bout - he is gruff indeed and his voice / appearance share no common ground. Be that as it may - same could be said for many.

i guess if he was a Yokozuna ( (In a state of confusion...) ) someone would have critisised his antics.....

now he is just a fun (from time to time) and funny (always) to watch rikishi.

No sympathy from me to Takamisakari at the moment, as his last day loss cost me at least one place in the overall OddSumo standings. (Applauding...)

At first my feelings toward Sakari were what you call Neutral Good. With time they somehow degraded to Neutral Evil. I think he absolutely doesn't deserve his popularity, I feel like gloating inside when he loses or goes makekoshi, even though overall, I don't really mind about him.

There was this one moment during this basho that even in my cruel bitter heart I felt some sympathy towards Sakari. That was on shonichi, when he lost to Tokitsuumi by a throw of some kind, and the latter just lifted his sagari off the floor and went to his side. Sakari sat (or lay) there on the dohyo, disappointed, with his cry-baby face, and the other guy didn't even help him up... I don't know why but that caused a not-so-pleasant feeling deep inside my chest.
