Washuyama 662 Posted June 13, 2010 Went with Viki to watch keiko on Sunday. Had a great time. While there we noticed a deshi with hair too short for a mage. He wasn't in the rikishi guide for Kitanoumi or Kise beya and we were wondering who he was figuring he must be a new deshi. . He stood around alot as the Makushita guys were wrestling and I was figuring as a shin-desh and was probably a bit out of his league. When he finally got on the dohyo, he proved my assumptions wrong! He won 5 or six in a row against the Sandanme and Makushita guys. He was finally beaten by Fukao (who looked VERY genki, BTW.) When he got back on the dohyo, he did the same thing... Five or six wins in a row and then beaten again by Fukao. Viki looked over the shoulder of the yobidashi that was keeping track of how many bouts each rikishi fought and found out he was Ryuonami of Tatsunami Beya. He's a 22 year old Mongolian who took the Jonokuchi yusho in May. I look forward to keeping track of his progress and don't think he will have much of a problem until he reaches Makushita. By then he should be able to put on a little weight and gain some valuable experience. High hopes for this one! In other news, moto-Kitazakura was in a mawashi coaching the rikishi, paying special attention to Orora who was tying to hide in the back and do one or two "shiko" to act like he was working. Kitazakura would have none of it and paired him up with a rikishi for some maki-kai (?) grip switching exercises. As his partners couldn't handle Orora's weight for very long in this exercise, Kitazakura paired him up with Tokushinho (he and Kiyoseumi were there only for a little while as the sekitori went out for de-geiko.) Tokushinho schooled him for a little while until Kiazakura put Orora on the teppo pole for a workout. I took some pictures, although not very good ones as I was enjoying watching too much to take pics. Anyway a great day... The pics can be seen here starting on page two of the album, I believe. The link is to share with anyone even friends outside facebook. Kotoviki 16 Posted June 14, 2010 It is very strange that everyone can see my pics but not Scott's. His wife told me during the basho he had lost about 15-20kilos. At Baruto's party I said he had lost a lot of weight and looked good but he said "zannen" (that's too bad) but I was taking it to mean that if he was still active he wouldn't be losing weight... Kotoviki 16 Posted June 15, 2010 I agree with you, he looks great in a suit!!! He is my all time hero and I wish he was still active as well. However after watching him get beaten so much by the young boys in the upper makushita I am actually glad now not to see that anymore. I even get to see a lot more of him nowadays since he's retired.
