Kintamayama 47,359 Posted June 13, 2010 Kise Oyakata had openly admitted to ties with the underworld during that May 27th rijikai meeting that resulted in the closing down of his heya and him being demoted to second class dining car. "I had ties with them until two-three years ago,", he said then. The Kyokai people did not divulge that fact at the press conference that followed. All present were told to effectively not say a word about this, and that it was the PR department's task to do that, if at all. A cover-up is being hinted at.. The reason he got a heavier punishment than Kiyomigata is that he was more deeply involved with the mob, speculate the on-lines this morning. "I need a massage right here.." Kotoviki 16 Posted June 13, 2010 Scott & I felt sorry for Kise and Kitanoumi today because the press were swarming the heya! Some 3 press guys came to keiko and were clearly not there to watch the boys. They were sitting writing in notebooks and sending emails with their keitai most of the time. Kise had been watching and coaching the boys seriously when he suddenly got a telephone call. After that he kept running outside to take phone calls. Then Kitanoumi came in, they chatted a bit until Kitanoumi came to sit down near us. Then I noticed the press with all the cameras outside so they closed the doors suddenly. By that time three reporters had made it inside seeming to be there for the keiko at first. As soon as keiko was over they interviewed Kise and then Kitanoumi. Since we were sitting behind Kitanoumi I had to hear most of what they said. It was so uncomfortable for the boys who had been in and outside but had to all wait in the keikoba for the showers. Nobody was outside as they usually would have been.

Orion 431 Posted June 14, 2010 (edited) The reason [Kise oyakata] got a heavier punishment than Kiyomigata is that he was more deeply involved with the mob, speculate the on-lines this morning. Wouldn't it simply be that he was a stablemaster, with a stable to lose, whilst Kiyomigata was just a run-of-the-mill elder on the brink of retirement? A lot of the comments come from people who translate 'oyakata' as 'stablemaster' regardless of whether the man is the master of a stable. (NHK Bilingual News is a big offender; naturally NHK sumo commentaries don't make this mistake!) Orion Edited June 14, 2010 by Orion
Asashosakari 20,290 Posted June 21, 2010 The Kyokai has officially severed all ties to the Nagoya chaya/ticketing office that sold tickets to mob members for last year's Nagoya basho. Further investigations have apparently unearthed the fact that at least since last October the office's representation itself has been made up of people with mob connections, so it's FUBAR all over and the Kyokai had little choice but to cancel that business relationship altogether. Great! That's exactly what happened in Kyushu years ago. That is why, my friends, all the Kyushu basho tickets are on public sale. Orion, so what else is new? ilovesumo 12 Posted June 21, 2010 Taka want's to end the Chaya-system anyway. Now it's his time, if he has no connection to this now.
