Kintamayama 47,413 Posted February 9, 2010 (edited) Still golfing in Hawaii-third consecutive day-yesterday he played with Ishikawa the great no less, today, with an acquaintance, and was seen driving the golf cart himself in a jovial mood. The club is members only, so ordinary people and the press were off limits, and he seemed to be relaxed. He also met his fighter-friend Satoshi Ishii and went out for a few drinks with him, prompting the media to ask if he is even thinking of what happened. He is slated to stay in Hawaii till the weekend, and go back to Mongolia for the Lunar New Year which starts on February 13th. After that, he is planning on going to Osaka for the basho, so he may remain in Mongolia until March. Edited March 2, 2010 by Kintamayama

He told me he wanted to come to Canada. Was asking me about my country, couldn't believe it was bigger than China but with only 30 million people. Maybe he'll start a horse ranch somewhere there, then. Maybe! His English wasn't that bad either, it wasn't great but he could certainly get around and get things done in an English speaking country. Perhaps it was just my awful Japanese but... I think (hope) for practice he asked me to speak English with him instead of Japanese. He was a very funny guy but he really seemed to be asking a lot of questions and saying a lot of things that indicated he was, in July, already thinking well beyond sumo. He told us he'd do better in Akibasho, practically guaranteeing he'd win the yusho and... he won it of course, not to start any conspiracy theories about it being rigged or anything... Kintamayama 47,413 Posted February 10, 2010 News out of Mongolia says a magnificent parade (among other things) in honor of XA will be held in Mongolia when he arrives in a few days. "His achievement is akin to winning an Olympic gold medal and he will be treated in accordance!", said a spokesman.
Kintamayama 47,413 Posted February 10, 2010 Asashouryuu intends to go lead his own Asa-group by himself-first thing on the agenda is building a ski resort in Mongolia. He intends to use his retirement money to that end, says a paper. Last year, his group bought a whole mountain about 20 kilometers east of UB. A part of it is already open, and Asa intends to turn it into a full blown resort. This goes accordingly with a plan he spoke about a while back-mining for gold and oil on the one hand, and opening a resort on the other. "I'd like the Mongolian people to have cheap access to amusement centers", he said back then, and bought the Circus Arena and established an onsen. There is also talk of constructing a golf course (oh, so THAT"S why he went to Hawaii.. Maybe Zenjimoto can help him there..) . So, that Kyokai money is very important, says the reportage, not forgetting to mention that XA is walking around Hawaii unyokozuna-like with a ponytail. Kintamayama 47,413 Posted February 12, 2010 Asa's manager has left for Hawaii to join him, as his father arrived in Japan today with his "third brother". His father says he is not going to Hawaii and he plans to meet Asa in Japan , but he doesn't know when exactly. Father:
Kintamayama 47,413 Posted February 13, 2010 (edited) It appears that Asashouryuu's mother and sister have been in Japan for a while, and the reason given for his brother and father arriving was that they didn't want them to be alone in Japan during the Lunar New Year. The brother added he was here on "private business" and had no concrete meeting date with Asa. The manager hinted that the family reunion may be held in Hawaii, although both father and brother denied they were going to Hawaii, and said HIS reason for going to Hawaii was to get final confirmation from Asashouryuu that the date and details concerning his intai-zumo (lately been used instead of danpatsushiki in the papers) were acceptable. Kintamayama 47,413 Posted February 17, 2010 Asashouryuu's manager has returned from Hawaii, where he met him to discuss plans for his danpatsushiki. This part at least is agreed upon by the papers. Two distinctly different reports follow from here. 1. Asashouryuu plans on returning as soon as this week to Japan to participate in Hakuhou's wedding ceremony slated for February 21st. "I'd like to be there..", he is said to have said to have said. 2. Asashouryuu will be staying in Hawaii for an unspecified time. "It looks like he wants to take his time. He has definitely not set any return date. It's gonna take a while..", said the manager maybe. This from the same guy. You decide.
Kintamayama 47,413 Posted February 18, 2010 These last few days, the rumor is that at the final dohyo-iri, Asashouryuu will be flanked by Hakuhou as moshimoshi tachimochi and Harumafuji as tsuyuharai.
Torabayama 51 Posted February 18, 2010 Are there any reports (or speculations) about when tickets for Asa's danpatsushiki will be available? Or how difficult they will be to get a hold of?
ilovesumo 12 Posted February 19, 2010 (edited) http://ameblo.jp/asashoryu-yokozuna/ No real news. Last entry was 8th of February, Manager and Asa spoke on the phone again. (No time to translate, sorry) tickets- camping in front of the Kokugikan in Summer I bet.... Well, if I am there in time, I will do so. Let's talk about that when time has come. :) Other way is asking the Heya (sometimes possible to get cheaper tickets through connection) Edited February 19, 2010 by ilovesumo
Kintamayama 47,413 Posted February 21, 2010 Asashouryuu's whereabouts are unknown at this time. His manager returned to Japan via LA ("He's not here, now is he??", he answered when questioned about Asa's whereabouts..), and not through Honolulu, causing speculation that Asa is in LA. Some say he is on his way to visit Las Vegas.

Kintamayama 47,413 Posted February 24, 2010 (edited) Nothing mentioned in any Japanese papers, but check this out!!: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=206...id=afgWhgJqfQYQ Found the Chunichi article-Asa was supposed to ring the bell for start of business at the NYSE but he was"busy" and did not do it finally. Kintamayama 47,413 Posted February 24, 2010 (edited) Aaand, he's back in Japan. He did not answer the reporters' questions at the airport. Tanned, white-rimmed glasses and dark suit. He was smiling, but no talk. No mage, as the papers are stressing. Edited February 24, 2010 by Kintamayama

Babaryutaikai 1 Posted February 24, 2010 (edited) Out of curiosity, where DO you go in New York to get your mage tidied up? Wolfgang Pucks place by all accounts. (Sign of disapproval...) He looks good (and happy). (Blowing up furiously...) He's not a rikishi anymore. He can wear his hair however he pleases. Just reporters trying to make copy. Actually, that would be Wolfgang's Steakhouse in Soho. It was my mistake. I had just assumed that any restaurant that was called "Wolfgang" would have automatically have the "Puck" attached to it. No matter, it was a great steakhouse. And he had a sort of modified mage. And that photo on the front page of Chunichi was obviously taken with a long lens, paparazzi style.
