Asashosakari 20,203 Posted September 24, 2003 4 guys promoted:Bushuuyama (first) Takanotsuru (last seen in Juryo- July 2003) Nakao (last seen in Juryo- July 2003) Towanoyama (last seen in Juryo- May 2002) Congrats to Towanoyama for making it back up to the sekitori ranks after a year and a half. (Sigh...) Bunch of that going around lately...first Nakao, then Sentoryu, now him. Nakao continues to ride the elevator...hopefully with a bit more success than the last few basho. Takanotsuru's back where he belongs, which is Juryo for now. I do hope he makes it back up to Makuuchi again, if only because we need to see more sideburns vs. sideburns bouts. :-) And yet another Musashigawa rikishi, #8 now...does anyone care to wager an estimation how Bushuyama compares to Kakizoe in terms of potential? Yubiquitoyama 4 Posted September 24, 2003 (edited) And yet another Musashigawa rikishi, #8 now...does anyone care to wager an estimation how Bushuyama compares to Kakizoe in terms of potential? Well, Bushuyama has been struggling for a while from his Makushita-tsukedashi start in 1999.01 and as far as I know Kakizoe was much more believed in at least based on his college career. But then again, careers change so we'll just have to see (Sigh...) On another note, Bushuyama will be the last college rikishi to have started at Ms60Td by the old rules to reach Juryo. Now there is no one of them left in sumo down there in in the Makushita mire who never made it to sekitori at least once. Feginowaka 53 Posted September 24, 2003 Two giants- Hoshifransu would love this.. Me too! (Sigh...) I hope that Takanotsuru and Towanoyama will be back in Makuuchi in 2004 and that Towanoyama will finally have his first Makuuchi bout.
Kaikitsune Makoto 210 Posted September 24, 2003 And yet another Musashigawa rikishi, #8 now...does anyone care to wager an estimation how Bushuyama compares to Kakizoe in terms of potential? Kakizoe's potential was always known but Bushuyama is more of an open card. I think Kakizoe is a unique talent so maybe Bushuyama isn't quite as promising. Bushuyama said in an interview during Aki basho that he really wanted to catch up on Kakizoe with whom he has trained enormously lot especially when they were both in makushita. Also both have had career threatining injuries. Kakizoe's knee injury was very serious and Bushuyama had major problems with his elbow for a long time preventing him from flourishing. Not everyone who started as Ms60 Tsukedashi got at least to Juryo, right? Edit: And to get a headstart on the upcoming Banzuke Topics (which will probably mention this as well), Bushuyama's 29 basho until Juryo promotion are making him the 5th-slowest Tsukedashi starter to get to Juryo. Yeah, yeah, useless trivia... (Laughing...) Edited September 24, 2003 by Asashosakari
Fujisan 533 Posted September 24, 2003 Sounds strange but I've wanted to see Towanoyama in action since Hoshifransu used him as an avatar-He just looks the part.
