Kintamayama 47,175 Posted July 23, 2003 Yokozuna Deliberation Council (YDC) chairman Mr.Ishibashi has proposed that he come visit Takasago beya in the near future to see Yokozuna Asashouryuu and "see how he is doing". "We recommended his Yokozuna promotion. Therefor, we have a responsibility. I'd like to see him and give him some encouragement (what about a little caution?). Many people, and I among them, would like to see him become a distinguished Yokozuna. He has the potential.I would like to watch over him." He wants to avoid the worst case scenario at all costs, say the papers. When circumstances allow, he will be going to Takasago with the female member of the YDC, Mrs. Uchidate, who is well remembered for her "warm' remarks regarding Takanohana. Sure to be promoted to Makuuchi Kakizoe of Musashigawa-beya has announced that he is sticking to his real name, and will not get a new shikona for the occasion. His instuctor from Nichidai, his Alma Mater had prepared a Shikona for him, but he said, " If I get a new shikona with all that goes with it, and I drop back down to Juuryou, it would be quite embarassing, so I decided not to have one". The only other two rikishi in Makuuchi using their real names are Dejima and Jumonji, who BTW is named after a board game from a movie of the same name. He's named after a board game in a movie??? (Holiday feeling...) :-D Didn't you know? And, of course, Jumonji's brother, Ouija, is still fighting in lower Sandanme, too... (Applauding...) Fujisan 533 Posted July 23, 2003 I already did that joke Zenji but I guess it lost something with those who dont have English as a first language. And Yoavo I think we can safely say Jumonji wasnt named after the film since it was raleased after he was born.

Kintamayama 47,175 Posted July 23, 2003 (edited) The only other two rikishi in Makuuchi using their real names are Dejima and Jumonji (...) Let's not forget Shimotori. It was a translation from the original. I meant "current Makuuchi". I thought it was obvious, but since I received a few comments on this, I guess I will clarify-... Shimotori is still Juryo. The piece spoke of Kakizoe as a current Juryo who will probably be Makuuchi. During the coming Jungyo in a few days, they both will still be called out as Juryo. So, the only 2 Makuuchi rikishi who haven't changed their name are Dejima and Jew-monji. I stand behind my statement in a stubborn way!! Shimotori is Juryo till the next Banzuke cometh!! My Bonnie lies over the ocean. Edited July 23, 2003 by Kintamayama
Kintamayama 47,175 Posted July 23, 2003 (edited) I think we can safely say Jumonji wasnt named after the film since it was raleased after he was born. Jumonji's father invented the game. Screenplay writer Greg Taylor turned it into a screenplay. His best friend Robin Williams bought the rights. The game is based on an ancient Japanese game played by Samurais' apprentices while waiting for battle- "Ju-Man- Ji" , or 100,000 letters. It was based on scrabble, but considering Japanese has more than 26 letters, it was much more complicated, and consisted of various "chores" one had to do. Small pieces of paper with various cryptic, rhyming instructions were hidden in the sand. The apprentices had to find the notes, and raced each other to see who could fulfill those chores the quickest. Probably changed its look and rules as the years went by, and was surely altered by the screenplay writer to suit Western needs.
