yamaneko 2 Posted May 18, 2007 dang. where are juryo videos when you need them!
Kaikitsune Makoto 210 Posted May 19, 2007 Wakanoho is now 4-3 and about to get tougher foes in the upcoming days. He may well burn and get back to makushita. I see a lot or problems ahead of him. We shall see. Would be interesting to see him against Hakurozan.
Ossetian Yokozuna 1 Posted May 19, 2007 There is a little problem. WAKANOHO has broken his big toe. I dont know when it has occured. Here is only a little yestoday information about it http://www.japan-sumo.ru/home6.html "Превозмогая боль в сломанном на ноге большом пальце, Молодой феникс Сослан Гаглоев вытеснил с дохё Кобо и взял у 33-летнего ветерана реванш за январское поражение". yamaneko 2 Posted May 20, 2007 and actually showed some nice forward moving sumo. Its going to be tough for him to get the 3 wins he probably needs to stay in juryo, if he does have something wrong with his toe. That big toe is pretty important IMO in generating power and keeping stability. Very strange that when he has the injury he shows the most powerful sumo yet this basho, but then again maybe it happened during the bout?
yamaneko 2 Posted May 20, 2007 and falls to a kakenage loss today, to go back to .
aderechelsea 125 Posted May 20, 2007 very "roho-like" reaction in the end ... B-)
Ossetian Yokozuna 1 Posted May 21, 2007 What is wrong?
yamaneko 2 Posted May 21, 2007 At least, it doesnt seem like his lack of technique is something that could lead to an injury like baruto. Its just slopiness. Id get worried if he started trying to hold on too late at the tawara, exposing too much pressure on the knees like baruto used to do. Slopiness i think is something wakanoho can get over eventually. yamaneko 2 Posted May 21, 2007 good news and bad news. Good is that wakanoho won again. Bad is that it was by hatakikomi, so i wonder if it is hakurozan sumo again? Will wait for the nishinoshima report/video.
yamaneko 2 Posted May 22, 2007 another victory today. Hes actually doing better after the broken toe!
yamaneko 2 Posted May 23, 2007 Wakanoho has been eating his Wheaties. Third victory in a row on a broken toe, hikiotoshi. Again, not an impressive kimarite, but a win is a win is a win.
Doitsuyama 1,263 Posted May 23, 2007 Again, not an impressive kimarite, but a win is a win is a win. You can't brand all wins "not impressive" just by looking at the kimarite alone. Well, yamaneko cautiously branded the kimarite as "not impressive" which I think should be possible. Hikiotoshi just isn't very impressive.
Jakusotsu 6,403 Posted May 23, 2007 It was a win in reverse gear, pulling Toyohibiki all the way across the dohyo. Liked yesterday's yorikiri much better. Now if only I knew what he was laughing out loudly about during the Juryo dohyo-iri...
Kintamayama 47,384 Posted May 23, 2007 Hikiotoshi just isn't very impressive. What about hatakikomi? In "memoirs of a geisha" it was described as the greatest of the kimarite. (Blushing...) For a geisha, sure. It's right up there with kubinage and hickey-otoshi.
aderechelsea 125 Posted May 23, 2007 kubinage or concubinage ? (Blushing...)
yamaneko 2 Posted May 24, 2007 Congrats to wakanoho on his first ever sekitori kachikoshi. And also uatenage victory....no slap or pull down here. Wakanoho continues to surprise me. Doing poorly when i expect him to do well, doing well when i expect him to do poorly (after broken toe). Nishi, please tell him those of us from sumoforum wish him omedeto gozaimasu. Lets see how he does the last few days to see about his rank next tourny. He has very little chance of being passed up by any of the 3 behind him on the banzuke, nor makushita promotees, IMO. Hes guaranteed better than the juryo 12 ranked guys. Baruto obviously is jumping up, possibly to makuuchi. Has a shot to catch 11E shirononami, Who knows. with some banzuke luck, he might find himself in the middle of juryo next basho if he wins a couple more. yamaneko 2 Posted May 24, 2007 on a side note, all 3 sekitori ossetians won today by nage victories. I think out of the 4 osettians, aran seems to be the only pusher thruster sumo guy. Roho shows more power than hakurozan and wakanoho, but also is a big time henkaer, and not too shabby on the belt.
Ossetian Yokozuna 1 Posted May 24, 2007 ( A little offtopic. ) yamaneko - "... aran seems to be the only pusher thruster sumo guy". I think, there is two reasons for this. 1. ARAN has only a little expierience in kimarite. 2. The level of his opponents is low now and it is sufficiently pushing for him to win.
Tikozan 4 Posted May 24, 2007 (In a state of confusion...) Congratulations to Wakanoho for his first KK in Juryo. He has learned a lot of in the last bashos and I hope he goes his way to makuuchi.
yamaneko 2 Posted May 25, 2007 waka lost today to mokonami. I cant remember the last time waka could beat mokonami. Was it in the ketteisen with baruto and them last year?

yamaneko 2 Posted May 26, 2007 Yorikiri victory today by waka. He has gone 5-1 since the news of his broken toe. Very very very nice. Oh how i wish the stream was working or someone was doing lower division videos like a couple basho ago.
