Hashira 0 Posted January 12, 2003 that was a close call for takanohana, i only saw it on the webcast, so no replay :(, so i can't wait until it's uploaded onto the net so i can see how close it actually was a hard spill too, but he seemed to bouce back up okay
QttP 0 Posted January 12, 2003 This will probably be moved into "Spoilers" very soon.

Naifuzan 1 Posted January 12, 2003 I'm just wondering why some rikishis changed the color of their mawashi. Is there any particular reason?
Zentoryu 154 Posted January 12, 2003 This will probably be moved into "Spoilers" very soon Well the Rijicho declared this basho "spoiler" free. In other words, we don't need to worry about posting basho info in the spoiler zone. (check out the "Special Messages" subforum for more info on that) So this thread will likely stay where it is. Unless he changes his mind...
Rijicho 6 Posted January 12, 2003 check out the "Special Messages" subforum for more info on that)(...) Unless he changes his mind... Essential messages. ;-) I won't change my mind in the middle of the basho. Afterwards perhaps but not during the basho.
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted January 12, 2003 I'm just wondering why some rikishis changed the color of their mawashi. Is there any particular reason? Probably not. Toki had that hallucinogenic mawashi for more than a year or there might have been two of them. Usually a shimekomi lasts about a year, I think. That new blue one isn't that hot either, I think, but vastly better.
Tokimori 0 Posted January 12, 2003 Hallucinogenic mawashi? Has anyone got a picture?
Fujisan 533 Posted January 12, 2003 So Fukuno, seriously did it look like Takanohana might be injured give me a little more info.
Zentoryu 154 Posted January 12, 2003 So Fukuno, seriously did it look like Takanohana might be injured give me a little more info. He certainly didn't look hurt. He and Wakanosato fell off the dohyo at the same time, with Taka rolling off the side and landing on his back in the front row. He got back up and walked across the dohyo back to his side with no noticeable limp or anything. He didn't look in pain either. So I don't think there was any injury here. The fall probably looked worse than it actually was.
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted January 12, 2003 Hallucinogenic mawashi? The one of that orange colour That Should Not Exist. ;-)
Naifuzan 1 Posted January 12, 2003 That orange color was very "Toki" to me. It's just not the same with the blue one! Guess I'll get used to it  (Unhappy...) I'm just a sucker for crazy colored mawashis!  :-
Tokimori 0 Posted January 12, 2003 I agree with Oshidashi. This mawashi is very unTokilike. The orange one was good. Hmm... This is starting to sound like Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon in "Grumpy old men"! I will do my best to appreciate the new blue colour.
Zenjimoto 40 Posted January 13, 2003 Even though my extensive review of the replays made me come to the conclusion that indeed Wakanosato's knee was down inside the dohyo 0.04254 seconds before Takanohana touched on the outside, I think that had it been ANYBODY else but this particular Yokozuna, there would have been a mono-ii. Â It was just TOO close! Â I guess they didn't want to put the Yokozuna in a position of doubt. Â Maybe there IS a conspiracy after all. (Devilish thought) Â Sure doesn't hurt that Takanohana's presence made Day 1 a sellout! :) Cheers Zenjimoto

Sure doesn't hurt that Takanohana's presence made Day 1 a sellout!  Well, the point is that the correct call was made. If they had made the wrong call and then no Mon-ii, there would certainly be a reason to say there was a conspiracy. While they probably could have called for a Mono-ii, I initially didn't think there was a need for one. To me it looked like Waka had touched down first even without the replay. So my initial reaction was, while it was close, Taka had won. Watching it on slow motion simply confirmed that. So I didn't sense any conspiracy. But then maybe it was just my extraordinary eye-sight.   ;-)
Hashira 0 Posted January 13, 2003 yes, after my viewing of the dohyo.com replay, takanohana definitely did win. it was hella close tho. yeah, i think a mono-ii was probably in order, but then if taka lost on the rematch all us supporters would be complaining that he was robbed of a valid win, so i guess it's 6 to one...and i gotta put in a bit of an argument with zentoryu about him not looking injured. seemed to me that he picked himself up off the ground kinda slowly, but that might just have been cuz he thought he had lost and he wanted to crawl into a hole or something...anyway, he's 1-0 and that's all that matters

He probably thought "Oh crap, I just lost.." and there were probably a million thoughts going through his head about the fall out of such a loss. He probably did want to dig a hole to crawl into. But, IMO, he didn't look injured at all when he walked across the dohyo. Either way, were about to find out for certain today.
Hashira 0 Posted January 13, 2003 YIKES!!! another controversial match and another hard fall for the beloved yokozuna. again, i'll have to see the replay before i pass judgement, but still, he's 2-0 :D
