Reonito 1,783 Posted May 25 As far as I can from the translation tools, no outstanding performance prize. Kanto-sho to the winner of Aonishiki-Sadanoumi and to Asakoryu with a win; gino-sho to Kirishima and Wakatakakage. https://x.com/sumokyokai/status/1926488540805792133 1
Reonito 1,783 Posted May 25 It's possible that Sadanoumi's is unconditional; I'd welcome any corrections from someone who reads Japanese.

Reonito 1,783 Posted May 25 Tamawashi has to wonder why double digits in March wasn't enough for a kanto-sho for him, but is enough for Sadanoumi now...

They are rushing to reward Sadanoumi for the last time? Tamawashi is expected to be there forever...
WAKATAKE 2,759 Posted May 25 As noted above. No shukun-sho which is not surprising Sadanoumi guaranteed a kanto-sho which I'm assuming has to do with the fact that he got to double digits at 38 (also like noted above, Tamawashi???) Aonishiki and Asakoryu have to win their matches today to get the kanto-sho Kirishima and Wakatakakage guaranteed the gino-sho
Chiyozakura 163 Posted May 25 I assume it has to do with what is expected from you. This is only Sadanoumi's third ever double digit record and he never made Sanyaku so it is a special achievement. Tamawashi on the other hand is a former Sekiwake with two yusho to his credit so a 10-5 at mid-Maegashira is not that special for him.
Chiyotasuke 319 Posted May 25 I think the reason Tamawashi didn't get that was because in January this year he could've gotten a kanto-sho if he'd won, so maybe they thought 2 in a row is too generous.

With Shishi I probably just don`t get the joke but he is young and won the Juryo Yusho just one basho earlier.

Since the actual difference between Juryo and Makuuchi is just the number of ranks between spots, same as if you were still in Juryo, but most guys seem to take a couple or a few basho to get used to the added pressure, more fans, more media interest. I can see not giving him a prize two times in a row for the same achievement, but failing to give him one he could have gotten doesn't seem like a good reason not to give him another shot next time. No, the actual difference is that a rikishi ranked high in juryo faces mostly worse opponents while a rikishi ranked low in makuuchi faces mostly better opponents.
