Benihana 1,937 Posted August 1, 2016 (edited) Not really a manga/anime fan, but i love all the Ghost in the Shell anime-stuff. I can't believe they cast Scarlet Johansson as Motoko Kusanagi. Well, she's great (her butt is even greater :-D ), but that's jut wrong. Mononoke, Chihiro, Appleseed, Saberrider, Samurai Champloo, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Avatar (not the blue guys, the guy with the blue arrow on his head), In my youth i played Shadowrun and Das Schwarze Auge (german RPG inspired by D&D), Battletech Tabletop and 40K until some years ago. There were some TCGs like Star Trek and Warzone, never fell for Magic. I still have some comic books in my attic...Spawn, Fathom, Witchblade, can't remember them all, and i'm still a fan of Lucky Luke and Asterix (still buy each new book). Not to forget all those novels i own and still read, mostly SF and F like Battletech,Shadowrun, Honor Harrington, Posleen Wars, etc.. Also got a decent digitalized comic book collection...Deadpool, Punisher, Percy Pickwick, Gaston, Marsupilami, Spirou&Fantasio, Star Wars... I also played a lot of PC games. The usual stuff, Doom,Wolfenstein, Quake/Quake TF, Half Life, CS until it went 1.0. Also SimCity, XCOM, C&C, Mechwarrior and so on. I still reactive Diablo 2 sometimes. Recently i started playing XCOM2. I'm lvl15 at Ingress, so it was a no brainer, that i started Pokemon Go...TEAM INSTINCT FTW! And then there is my HUGE collection of tv shows and movies...EVERYTHING from Star Trek and Star Wars (yes, even the infamous Christmas special), Bab5, BSG, etc. pp. Edited August 2, 2016 by Ogami Ittō
Benevolance 2,511 Posted August 2, 2016 I love all of those things. But between professional studies and kids, I've lost most of my gaming time. We had a 3.0-->3.5-->Pathfinder campaign that had met weekly for going on 15 years that we finally had to call quits last year because all my friends are in the same boat. I really like the Pathfinder system. But now I'm playing in a second edition Dark Heresy group once a month; it's a more reasonable time commitment. But I'm still following the One Piece manga. And more slowly catching up on the One Piece anime while I fold laundry or make dinner. I'm also a big fan of the Usagi Yojimbo comics, and I'm happy that they're being re-released in trades. I picked up Halo 5 recently, and was incredibly disappointed it doesn't support split-screen co-op. My wife and I had played through all the previous games together, and were looking forward to carrying on the saga. Ori and the Blind Forest was the most recent title I really enjoyed. I think my kids are almost old enough to 'get' some of the early arcade games, like Galaga, so my wife and I are going to rebuild the mame cabinet this winter. I'm also Team Instinct, by the way. :-)
Akinomaki 40,814 Posted August 2, 2016 (edited) Of course I'm into manga and anime - I used them to lean Japanese - the natural choice because I continued to like comics anyway, since childhood, with Asterix still my favorite. Shonen manga have hiragana readings (furigana) - so I started with them. When I came to Japan Dragonball Z was in the highlight of the series, Vegeta and his (former) companions had arrived, the repeat of Dragonball was at the fight against the Red Ribbon army, also a highlight: it's still my favorite manga and anime, but I stopped collecting/watching them after it became increasingly boring with and after the Cell saga. I quickly expanded to Draemon, Anpan-man, Shonen Ashibe and later Tezuka manga and anime, Oishinbo and a whole lot of others. Studio Ghibli is a must of course. I think though that my manga collection is not yet of otaku size (Japanese only - otherwise nearly all my comics are with stories from Rene Goscinny) I stopped playing video games years ago - no time and I'm past the age to be able to strain my wrist, eyes, neck and back without remorse. Washuyama 641 Posted August 2, 2016 I used to like manga when I was a kid living in Japan as I used to watch alot of Japanese cartoons and even played with "menko" when I was a kid (although I like the ones with cars more than cartoon characters). Have been a video game junkie since the 70s when Pong was introduced and have stayed with them til now (up till recently, I was an avid Call of Duty player.) Also played Magic: The Gathering (AKA "Cardboard Crack") back in the late 90s and early 2000s although haven't bought any cards in over 15 years.
Benevolance 2,511 Posted August 2, 2016 Aw, man. Magic the Gathering paid for my first car. :-) Did anyone else play the Jyhad/Vampire:The Masquerade CCG? It supported an essentially unlimited # of players, and we used to hang out at the comic shop after hours to play.
