Aminishiki had aggravated an old ligament damage at his left knee on day 13 in the bout against Tamawashi. He is in hospital since the day after senshuraku and concentrates on treatment the whole August, planning to leave hospital next week. He will very likely be kyujo for the Natsu jungyo.

Kyujo for the jungyo

Makuuchi: Goeido, Tochiozan, Aminishiki, Homasho, Chiyootori, Azumaryu, Wakanosato

Juryo: Masunoyama, Chiyonokuni, Kizenryu

The Kyokai posted an updated list a short while ago, adding Kaisei to the Makuuchi kyujo list.

Now a few pictures - the handwritten schedule for the jungyo, and posters for each of the events.

Jungyo02_Schedule.jpg

Ishioka/Omitama, August 8th.

Kushiro, August 17th.

As Asashosakari mentioned in his schedule post above, a special memorial event precedes the jungyo in Iwaki. I'm not sure if there will be any actual sumo, but there will be dohyo-iri performed on the dohyo shown in these pictures.

Jungyo11_Iwaki.jpg

Yobidashi Keisuke, Yohei and Rikinojo work on the top of the dohyo.

Jungyo12_Keisuke_Yohei_Rikinojo.jpg

Keisuke pours a little sake at the corners of the dohyo. Some locals were invited to observe the proceedings, guided by Kiyomigata-oyakata (former Maegashira Tochisakae), in the centre wearing the white t-shirt.

Jungyo13_Sake.jpg

Everyone has a sip of the sake.

Jungyo14_Sake.jpg

The dohyo is now ready for the event.

The whole Iwaki dohyo-iri event (with taiko, kids keiko, shokkiri, jinku, lottery, speech by Hakuho) was live on Niji NicoNico - unfortunately I looked too late at the NSK twitter announcement and failed to make a reservation.

To apologize for disappointing the fans because new ozeki Goeido is absent, each jungyo location will have a demonstration of putting on the tsuna as fan service.
http://www.sanspo.com/sports/news/20140808/sum14080819110004-n1.html

Another fan service: the rikishi below ozeki have to apply in advance for keiko, instead of the mass of them standing around the dohyo, blocking the view, trying to get selected as the next opponent of the winner after each keiko bout in the usual moushi-ai keiko.
It will be mainly sanban-geiko (the same 2 doing 3 or the like) or groups of 3 or 4 formed (on each side) who wait for their chance. Yokozuna/ozeki keiko is separate.

Some pictures and a video from the concluding event of this summer jungyo, in Kushiro.

Early arrivals waiting to get inside the venue.

Jungyo217_Kushiro.jpg

Itabanzuke on display in the lobby.

Jungyo218_Itabanzuke.jpg

Waiting to greet the fans are Arawashi and Kyokutaisei - Chiyoshoma (I think?) is first to arrive for a handshake.

Jungyo219_Arawashi_Kyokutaisei.jpg

The kensho banners at this event were hand-written by some of the gyoji - Aoiyama stopped by to take a look.

One final set of pictures from the last event of this jungyo in Kushiro.

In the Makushita keiko session, Gochozan thrusts Nishikigi back to the edge and out.

Kawanari and Nankairiki prepare for a practice bout.

Endo warms up with some shiko.

Jungyo249_Endo.jpg

Chiyomaru lends his chest to Nishikigi.

Jungyo250_Nishikigi_Chiyomaru.jpg

Gagamaru spots the camera.

Jungyo251_Gagamaru.jpg

Kakuryu arrives at the dohyo and bows to Oyama-oyakata, whose silver hair can just be seen at the side of the picture.

Jungyo252_Kakuryu_Oyama.jpg

Osunaarashi and Gagamaru share a laugh.

Jungyo253_Osunaarashi_Gagamaru.jpg

And so do Kisenosato and Kitataiki.

Jungyo254_Kisenosato_Kitataiki.jpg

Outside, Tokushoryu checks out the Taiho photo exhibition which was held at this event.

Jungyo255_Tokushoryu_Taiho.jpg

As I wrote in my previous post, former Maegashira Yutakayama went on to be chairman of Kushiro's city council after his retirement from sumo. His collection of banzuke was on display at this event - here, Juryo gyoji Kimura Kenjiro looks at the banzuke for the 1990 Natsu basho, the first banzuke he appeared on.

Jungyo256_Kimura_Kenjiro.jpg

Back in the arena, Shohozan and Endo chat.

Jungyo260_Osunaarashi_Harumafuji.jpg

Takayasu is stronger in this yotsu battle against Chiyomaru.

Jungyo261_Takayasu_Chiyomaru.jpg

And now Takayasu gets a workout from Hakuho.

Jungyo262_Hakuho_Takayasu.jpg

Some smaller opponents now take on the rikishi.

Jungyo263_Kodomo.jpg

Outside, Tamawashi and Sokokurai do some yamageiko, joined by Kagamio on the left.

Jungyo264_Yamageiko.jpg

Arawashi seen in the shitaku-beya.

Jungyo265_Arawashi.jpg

Kyokushuho has his oicho-mage prepared by Oitekaze-beya's Tokosaku.

Jungyo266_Tokosaku_Kyokushuho.jpg

And now Tokosaku works on Kyokutenho's hair.

Jungyo267_Kyokutenho_Tokosaku.jpg

Tokosaku again, this time preparing Hakuho's oicho-mage. Kyokai trainer Nakamoto, former Makushita Wakawashi, is massaging the Yokozuna's elbow.

Yokozuna Kakuryu's dohyo-iri.

Jungyo277_Kakuryu.jpg

A picture of Taiho and one of his yusho portraits were on display in the arena.

Jungyo278_Taiho.jpg

The pictures watch over the dohyo as Kyokutaisei and Osunaarashi prepare for their bout. The Kyokai describes Osunaarashi with the term "magodeshi", which basically means deshi of a deshi - Osunaarashi's shisho was once a deshi of Taiho himself, and of course their heya was previously known as Taiho-beya.

Jungyo279_Osunaarashi_Kyokutaisei.jpg

Ikioi, Aoiyama and Tamawashi have some fun while waiting for their bouts.

Jungyo280_Ikioi_Aoiyama.jpg

Jungyo281_Aoiyama_Tamawashi.jpg

Yoshikaze joins them for a game of rock-paper-scissors.

Jungyo282_Yoshikaze.jpg

The yobidashi parade the kensho banners around the dohyo - as I mentioned in my previous post, the banners were hand-written by the gyoji shortly before the event.

Jungyo283_Osunaarashi_Endo.jpg

Following the end of the event, Jokoryu enjoys some of that fresh Hokkaido air.

Jungyo284_Jokoryu.jpg

Jungyo288_Ikioi.jpg

The bus prepares to leave. Waving in the middle are Myogiryu and yobidashi Shigeo.
