That third tsukedashi..arriving

Recommended Posts

Nakano (22), who was supposed to debut at tsukedashi last Basho (and the one before, if we are nitpicking..) has finally announced his debut in Natsu. He has had a nagging wrist injury. He is from Musashigawa. He was last year's Amateur Sumo champion. He participated in the Musashigawa keiko yesterday. He had 20 bouts against Makushita and lower, and butsugari with Juryo Bushuuyama. He has not recovered his "Sumo sense", though and wasn't looking too hot. "At this point I suck. I'll do a lot of keiko and hope for a KK!!", he said.

So one can defer tsukedashi debut without penalty as long as it takes to recover from an injury? Surely you can't defer your debut just to train, right?

I am not certain of the exact circumstances needed, but it's not possible to just wait to start without penalty, at least not in any circumstance, which is obvious from Kakizoe whose first basho was a 0-0-7y (injuries due to a car accident), so that he had his actual first matches at Ms55 instead of Ms15Td.

I'm pretty sure there is a deadline of one year after the qualifying amateur title or achievement.

That's not the kind of deadline I was thinking of (my idea was something like "two weeks before the basho in order to be allowed to compete" or whatever), but that would make sense, too...was Kakizoe in danger of losing his tsukedashi eligibility when he had that accident, and that's why he rather took a 0-0-7 than be forced to start in Jonokuchi? Hmm...
