Rikishi recovery news

Recommended Posts

Chiyotaikai has recovered from his Haru yusho and resumed training.

Asashoryu has not recovered from fatique yet and does recreational activities but did appear at Takasago-keiko couple of days ago and has probably started some keiko now.

Tochiazuma says his shoulder is pain-free and he resumed keiko against makushita and lower few days ago. He looks forward to Natsu basho.

Takanowaka was hospitalized until 30th March (I don't know for how long) which I don't understand at all. It seems that rikishi spend time at hospital for odd reasons like joint surface fracture in Takanowaka's case even though he was able to walk all the time without crutches. He has now resumed traning though and hopes to start his ozeki drive from scratch. He turned 27 on 2nd of April. 27 is a good age.

No news about Musashimaru.

Takanohana has lost fat and muscle cell contents and weighs clearly less than at the time of his retirement.

Asamiyoshi had undergone ACL-reconstruction surgery at some point and is recuperating from that. Prognosis for time of return unclear.

Tamanoi Oyakata has ordered him to do  completely rest-free keikos, meaning not one day off. "Though his shoulder is OK, coming back from a kyujo, it is most difficult to get in the flow of things, so from now on-NO RESPITE, no lagging about!!", he said, rather sternly, being his father and all..

What is that all about?  It's been two weeks since the basho, and he's still tired???  If anything, he seems to be one of the better shape rikishi.  I know they have to wake up early during training etc, but he gets breaks as yokozuna and after all, they haven't even gone into serious training yet.  I hope he doesn't have something like chronic fatigue syndrome.

I'm assuming that the "fatigue" is probably the combination of the basho, the stress of being a first time Yokozuna, all the activities prior to and during the basho that go along with being promoted, and the trip home to Mongolia.

All of this happened in a relatively short period of time. He may have lost a lot of sleep during this which probably caused his fatigue level to be higher than normal.

That said, I agree that it does seem a bit odd that after two weeks off he is still tired. It would seem that two weeks would be enough for him to recover from this.

(I do not get it...)

at bandey's toshiyori list only former rikishi are listed for having one of the toshiyori...i understand that active rikishi can now loan their toshiyori to non active rikishi....is there any list of the owners of toshiyori rather than its holders...

As of this moment, I believe these are the myoseki which are held by one oyakata (or not held at all) but owned by someone else.

PS: Rijicho, it might be advisable to move this and the previous post to for example the toshiyori thread where it should be easier to find in the future.

Yes, I thought about the same. Let's see if I can move individual messages.

(UPDATE: Seems like there's no way to do that or perhaps it just wasn't obvious enough for me. I copied the last two messages to Toshiyori changes and such thread. Let's keep discussion about toshiyori situation there for the time being. Thank you.)
