Off topic-

Well done on your first win in bench sumo Tumppi.

I know it isnt technically your first win but its so much better to field the winning team yourself than it being automated right?

Hmm, must be some misunderstanding here... I didn't make any videos so far. I think you mean Dale Carlson, who makes the famous videos from the NHK telecast on http://www.banzuke.com/~movies/

I just make the far less famous videos from the webcast on http://www.banzuke.com/~juryoika/ and I hope to be able to work tomorrow on the videos from today and/or tomorrow...

He may not be making them for long. From the sounds of his last post to the SML, it appears the basho videos may disappear after Kyushu. (In a state of confusion...)

(Unless of course, Dale's pulling our collective legs again).

Yes, thanks Fujisan! It feels good indeed. I was quite proud of my 12 points actually! I just need covering for me on the last 5 days or else I'll lose a lot of points.. (In a state of confusion...)

I e-mailed Jejima btw.

So now I did just that and you can see the 51 bouts from day 1 and 2 which were streamed and can't be found at Dale's videos.

Thank you Doitsuyama, excellent work! :-P

The link http://www.banzuke.com/~juryoika/200311/da...o-Yotsukasa.asf from day 1 seems to be dead.

Hmm, I don't buy that Dale is finished after Kyūshū. We'll see. I could extend my webcast movies of course, but the quality is quite inferior to the NHK telecast.

Yes, let's hope Dale's not finished yet!

If the unthinkable happened, it would be a God's gift having a chance to see the videos with inferior quality compared to not seeing the videos at all! Believe me.. but we'll just have to wait and see :-P

How can it be that the NSK is ignoring all its international fans? Don't they want to get more fans outside Japan? We should not have to rely on the valiant individual efforts of Dale and Doitsuyama-zeki to view the bouts. (Holiday feeling...)

One could argue they're ignoring their Japanese fans just as much by putting on the Makuuchi bouts at a time of day when most people are still at work, so I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for them to better accomodate international fans.

Doitsuyama-zeki,

may I enquire why the links to all your movies are added to single page, and not divided in pages by days as is the case with Dale's? It makes scrolling down to current days a bit taxing later in the basho... (Holiday feeling...)

Because it is a lot easier to manage one page than 15 with all the links. :-) I know this from the hoshitori game. :'-( Well, the days are tagged internally with #1, #2, ..., #15, so to reach a specific day just write #d behind the URL, and your browser scrolls right to this day. :-) You know what, this gave me the bright idea to include a simple navigation bar at the top of the page to quickly find the day of demand for the movies to peruse. (Holiday feeling...)

And seriously, it really bugged me a lot that the movies from Dale are on a single page per day. There are those times when I wish to browse through the bouts from a specific rikishi in a basho, and how do you find those quickly? Well, of course when all bouts are listed on a single page. Just search for the rikishi until end of page. Just try to find all Hagiwara bouts from Nagoya for example.

When Sokitumi from the SML used to produce the "Basho on a Disk" CDs, he would put list all bouts for the yusho and sansho winners. You would select a sekitori, and all 15 days showed up on a single page -- a great feature.

I kind of miss those CDs. (Holiday feeling...)

Come to think of it, I haven't seen any postings from Sokitumi for awhile -- and his website (Larsplace) is down. I hope all is well.

So I guess these Basho On a Disk CDs are no longer available for purchase?

Nope, he stopped them sometime in 2002 (Natsu, I think). I believe he was citing time constraints as his reason for stopping them.

Too bad, it was nice to have a nicely formatted record of a basho. He even included Ken Coller's Sumo Now and Kintaro's musings.
