Poetic justice. Asashoryu got schooled. Kind of lame though. "He made a henka, so ima show him my henka, and pretty soon we're all doing henka and hopping around the dohyo like rabbits". Otokonoyama 2,735 Posted March 25, 2007 A settled, confident, dominating rikishi rarely gets fooled by henka. How many times did the recent yokozuna Takanohana get rooked by henka (especially in Day 15 musubi-no-ichiban and kettei-sen)?

How many times did the recent yokozuna Takanohana get rooked by henka (especially in Day 15 musubi-no-ichiban and kettei-sen)? Asashoryu is confident and more than dominating, but he still gets fooled sometimes. I'm not complaining, but... you know. If that's the way Hakuho will become yokozuna, I'll be rooting for Asashoryu all the way.
sekihiryu 51 Posted March 25, 2007 The biggest, ugliest henka of the basho. Day 15, musubi-no-ichiban. Asashoryu v. Chiyotaikai. Bad yokozuna (Yusho winner...) no way mate, he owed Chiyotaikai that one for pulling his hair and getting away with it last year - they are even stevens now. He and Hakuho are now `unbalanced`
Joeblack 0 Posted March 25, 2007 A settled, confident, dominating rikishi rarely gets fooled by henka. How many times did the recent yokozuna Takanohana get rooked by henka (especially in Day 15 musubi-no-ichiban and kettei-sen)? Takanohana rarely charge because he's bigger. Asashoryu is smaller than Hakuho, and he was almost forced out last bout they had. I guess he took the initiative to gain ground which is not a bad strategy. Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted March 25, 2007 Takanohana rarely charge because he's bigger. Bigger than who? Asashoryu? 183/150 vs. 184/148. What a difference two kilograms make indeed. Poor little Asashoryu. Having to fight against the 192/154 Hakuho. Poor man. I feel sorry for her.
Joeblack 0 Posted March 25, 2007 I guess Asashoryu was hasty before the bout. He was clearly out of his rhythm. He forgets to wipe his mouth with his wrist, which he does every time after he wipe his face. Hakuho also had Asashoryu waiting for a half minute before entering the ring. Otokonoyama 2,735 Posted March 25, 2007 The biggest, ugliest henka of the basho. Day 15, musubi-no-ichiban. Asashoryu v. Chiyotaikai. Bad yokozuna (Yusho winner...) no way mate, he owed Chiyotaikai that one for pulling his hair and getting away with it last year - they are even stevens now. He and Hakuho are now `unbalanced` That's why Shoryu loses. He gets caught up in this tit-for-tat mentality, and loses his cool...which sets ups the lost bouts. Takanohana had his faults, but in this regard Asa should steal a page from the noble flower's playbook.
Araiwa 0 Posted March 25, 2007 The stream froze right before the play-off and I saw nothing of the bout... I just thought why on earth now?! Now I know: the sumo-god wanted to spare me this "dramatic final".

Having to fight against the 192/154 Hakuho. Poor man. I feel sorry for her. Takanohana is stronger. Hakuho is probably stronger too. I think even Kotoosu can win in a pushing contest. Asashoryu just have better defense instinct that's all.
BuBa 77 Posted March 25, 2007 What a waste! I want to see how many more yushos Hakuho will win with a henka. While Asa'a henka isn't "graceful" either, I believe Hakuho's is far worse. A young wannabe starting whatever he wants to start with such a disgrace is a shame. Talking about shame I never felt so ashamed of my fellows in ozumo as today, not when Shuzan was henkaing his last tournaments, not when they have been breaking mirrors and kneeing defeated rikishis.. I hope you get my drift. What a waste.
Doitsuyama 1,259 Posted March 25, 2007 I guess Asashoryu was hasty before the bout. He was clearly out of his rhythm. He forgets to wipe his mouth with his wrist, which he does every time after he wipe his face. Hakuho also had Asashoryu waiting for a half minute before entering the ring. Hmm. Aren't you realizing that you are a running excuse machine for the yokozuna? Supporting him is all fine, but please try to stay real. Calling Takanohana bigger was a bit absurd to start with. Peterao 3 Posted March 25, 2007 No excuse for the yokozuna, especially losing by the same technique he employed less than 30 minutes earlier...but I believe that this is the last time that he'll fall for this trick. Hakuho will have to think of a new way to beat Asashoryu the next time out.
21Grams 0 Posted March 25, 2007 Life is full of things that should not have happened. Both men have done it today. What a waste. (Laughing...)
SalParadise 0 Posted March 25, 2007 I've seen people try a henka on the yokozuna several times in the last few years. Never once have I seen him fall for it. He barely brushed his hand against the ground today, and Hakuho got lucky. But dear God did the Yokozuna deserve it.
