Kaikitsune Makoto 210 Posted March 20, 2003 Or as low as you can, if you are PACHINKO Hmmmm...I sense a reference to me with this flipper thingie. According to doctor at Osaka gymnasium Tokitsuumi obviously tore or streched his biceps femoris in that awesome split. Biceps femoris is the strongest knee flexor. "I just tried too much to endure Takanonami's nage and I can't flex my knee now". Takanonami said he felt a sudden sink when applying that nage.

Fujisan 533 Posted March 22, 2003 I see your "kitchen on" Kinta. At least he got his KK before having to drop out,And even more important he wasnt on my Roto team.Always look on the bright side of these things.
Doitsuyama 1,259 Posted March 22, 2003 At least he got his KK before having to drop out,And even more important he wasnt on my Roto team.Always look on the bright side of these things. Hmm, as I see you have have Kasugaō in your Roto team who at best can reach the number of wins of Tokitsuumi. So I sense that Tokitsuumi wouldn't have be a disantvantage at all for your team. As I see, only Kyokushūzan would have been a better selection than Tokitsuumi despite him dropping out.
Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted March 24, 2003 Takanonami said he felt a sudden sink when applying that nage. Like this? That was funny :-D Biceps injuries take a long time to heal completely, but I doubt Tokitsuumi will wait to be 100% healed. I expect to see him in the next basho. And good him he got KK before kyujo...

Kaikitsune Makoto 210 Posted March 24, 2003 I'd like to wager a bet - my opinion is that Tokitsuumi is nearly 100% certain to sit out Natsu (as well as Takekaze), even if he is in top health by then... Just like Chiyotaikai did before Hatsu. I agree and top health is quite a relative concept in sports.Depending on the severity of the tear Tokitsuumi may have healed thigh muscle before Natsu basho but scar tissue, lack of training, decrease in the flexibility and strength in the affected area possesses another challenge which has to be overcome before entering honbasho. Chiyotaikai's triceps injury was largely healed before Natsu basho but he was far from good condition as naturally with injured muscle one can't train much. Of course he was eager to participate. Most motivated athletes are always eager to return fast after an injury as competition is what they want and when the injury seems healed the drive to get back in normal level is very strong. Body still takes its time no matter how strong the desire and jeopardising ozeki rank because of weakened pushing sumo would have been quite odd especially as Taikai needs strong pushing sumo to succeed.
