It seems the Pokemon Company will be teaming up with the Nihon Sumo Kyokai for the next couple of tournaments. The Pokemon Company will have banners at both the November and January basho. They'll also be sponsoring kesho-mawashi, and at the January basho, the gyoji will don a special Pokemon-themed outfit.

https://www.sumo.or.jp/pdf/kyokai/211027pokemon.pdf

Looks like the sumo pokemon, Makuhita, will be getting the spotlight alongside company mascot Pikachu.

New pokemon kensho banners will be wandering around the dohyo in Kyushu, but only on day 15.

Banner design - for Kyushu they are the package design from the historical Pocket monster games, the first 2 are from the initial one, Pocket monster red-green of 1996

More than 200 kensho will appear at the Hatsu basho, every day this time, showing different pokemon.

The 2 kensho on the right thus are for Hatsu and won't appear in Kyushu.

This is the first time that I see no announcement of the total number of kensho applied for at the basho, only the Pokemon kensho were in the news. Articles about sumo slowly disappear from the media, so it seems.

Maybe the focus is more on the upcoming 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics qualification campaign. That would distract more people given the many interesting storyline ps in figure skating, speed skating, ski jumping & curling

Has the amount of kensho placed on Takakeisho's bouts decreased? Or do Daieisho and Shodai have a reasonable amount of kensho placed on them?

No, the last ozeki bout has more kensho, tomorrow it's the other way round, but of course both less than on day 1

The 2 Pokemon kensho were the last of the day.

Terunofuji has 5 kensho from Nagatanien from the start now, Endo stays at 3.

On schedule and announced, but the NSK video shows that the yobidashi mixed it up and others came after it

I had no idea that kensho were placed statically on the last Ozeki bout. I knew about the musubi-no-ichiban of course.

There are a few more for the last ozeki bout and a few more for the 2nd to last bout of the day

Day 1 http://www.sumo.or.jp/pdf/honbasho/kansen/torikumi/2111_01.pdf

27:    Terunofuji
16:    Daieisho
9:    Takakeisho
9:    Takayasu
5:    Mitakeumi
3:    Abi
3:    Hokutofuji
2:    Chiyonokuni
2:    Chiyoshoma
2:    Kotonowaka

Either Tochinoshin or Yutakayama would have been on this list since there were 2 kensho prizes slated for their Day 1 bout.  Presumably that money got redirected, but the bottom line is that due to Tochinoshin's last-minute withdrawal, Yutakayama was deprived of the chance to line his pockets...
