Takakenshin fights a  Mr. X tomorrow - still no info at all about the opponent https://ganryujima.jp/?grjm_events=inoki-bom-ba-ye-x-巌流島-in-両国

Mr X is a throwback reference to one of Inoki’s “different style fights” - he had several of them following the Ali match - that were designed to show Inoki’s, and on a wider level, pro-wrestling’s superiority against other styles of martial arts

They have gone so far as to use the original Mr X in the match graphic. I am totally convinced this is a work designed to promote Takakenshin.

The original match:

Today at the weigh-in, Mr. X didn't show up, but some facts were revealed, he's huge, no Japanese, already arrived in Japan, if he takes off the mask, everybody knows him, a 100 times more MMA experience than Takakenshin, if he appears, we'll know him. Takakenshin was told who he is and commented (definitely wrongly quoted) "He's huge. Average makuuchi weight is 268 kg (really 168kg some time ago, now less), I fought bigger opponents than that, so he's light."

3rd bout of 10 after an extra opening bout, one of the 9 "Reiwa Inoki team vs. World martial arts team 9x9", the motto of the event - obviously he was scheduled all along from the start, with an extra show part to introduce him at the press conference - and Mr. X as the highlight

The only way I can imagine Takakenshin winning this gachinko is if he employs liberal use of oshi, as the Ganryūjima rules state that if a fighter is pushed out of the “ring” and cannot rise to fight again, then he loses. See chapter 4, section 3, item 3: https://ganryujima.jp/rule

Even then it would not surprise me to see this rule used to meet a yaochō outcome.

Takakenshin does not seem willing to apply himself to MMA the way Sudario has - physique is one indicator, performance in his bouts another. He also lacks the killer instinct of his brother.

Personally I think pro-wrestling would be a better route for him. He already has contacts in that business and there would be some interest in the main groups (NJPW, NOAH) for an outsider heel, especially if he were to come in with Yasuda by his side - another option would be DDT, as his acquaintance Takatōriki’s son is already established there.

I expect that tomorrow we will get a clearer picture of where his future lies.

As with the usual Ganryujima rules, it looks like if one competitor can force the other out of the ring three times in one round, that counts as a win and the match ends.

Sounds like a more standard Bob Sapp work unfortunately. I like Ganryujima getting more attention, and the spectacle of Inoki BomBaYe is always fun, but this new crossing of the MMA and Pro Wrestling streams I think isn't going to do Ganryujima any favours longer term (despite my love of many of the old school shoot style and actual shoot wrestling organizations).

If this were the early 90s I’m sure Takakenshin could make a good paycheck from whooping Tatsuo Nakano & Kazuo Yamazaki before getting leg locked by Takada at the Budōkan… alas!!

Two other fighters mentioned in this thread also fought on the Inoki BomBaYe x Ganryujima card.

Sekine "Shrek" Hideki beat Jan Soukoup (well known Kyokushin karateka) by triple ringout:

and

Shouma Shibisai lost to Josh Barnett (famed Catch Wrestler, Pro Wrestler, and former UFC heavyweight champion) by TKO. Shouma was dropped by a knee to the gut and had no answer to the follow up ground and pound.

Takenshin still aims to develop into an MMA fighter and for a first win in RIZIN next year. https://www.nikkansports.com/battle/news/202212280000747.html

The day before he had said he'll want to give his best as a rikishi again (in the kokugikan), he showed today that he hasn't developed further yet - he said he'll aim for oshidashi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srqJRmKfW8Q (also a comment from Shrek)

He really was wasted as a rikishi not being able to belt people like that on the floor.

Tsuyoshi Sudario scheduled to fight at RIZIN 45, part of the Japanese MMA tradition of New Year's Eve fights.

And lost in the second round. Maybe a tiny bit of an early stoppage, but after being dropped with a head kick like that I don't know he has that any cause for a complaint.

Was his eye always like that?

Look at his photos on the Internet.  His eyes looked the same while he was in Sumo, and during his transition to MMA.  Pictures of him some time after entering RIZIN events show his right eye smaller than his left.
