Live-blogging the all Japan Rikishi tournament

Recommended Posts

do not underestimate the impact of Kisenosato’s promotion, this is the first time for me to see the lower floor sellout compared to my first visit 2 years ago.

Endo-Ji Ji is skulking around the 2nd floor.

12.45pm: we are about to commence proceedings

Kyokutenho chatting mid torikumi with Hakuho, Shohozan

Kandayu is going to be officially introduced as Shikimori Inosuke, wearing the purple uniform for the first time.

His green uniform has been passed to Ginjirou, I believe.

And for the curious about the almost default yorikiri win percentage.

the rikishi will be leaving for jungyo immediately after this from the kokugikan. So it is probably an unwritten pact to win by yorikiri so that no one is going to spend a long time in the showers and getting onboard the bus totally damp and uncomfortable.

It is also a very written pact that the rikishi do not want to get injured unnecessarily, so most of the "bouts" are "bouts" and most of the results are yorikiri. Thank you for this cool thread-I wish there were more of these done by fans.

Probably not during a honbasho given our ever present (but dwindling) live broadcast channels that we have.

Most of us will rarely stay a week+ beyond senshuraku as well.

anyway, someone will find a way to post the recap broadcast from BS-TBS that will go live in 1 hours time.

We have quite a few Japan-based members. It's a question of willingness. Nothing new there.

It could also be a matter of timing, the fact that this tournament took place on Monday probably makes its harder for them

I'm not being specific- It's a broader thing. We have 6 bashos a year, yet nobody has ever live-blogged anything, except maybe once many years ago. Many years.

I thought about posting this in another thread to confuse a bit those who forgot it already - in here without further info hidden in a spoiler

Onosho donated his yusho cup and certificate to his hometown Nakadomari. It is planned to be put on display in the town museum, in a new corner for local rikishi. http://www.toonippo.co.jp/articles/-/122188

Coach Osanai (also of Takarafuji o), Onosho's grandma, the town headman
