Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted January 26, 2003 Hi, Thanks for the heads-up! I think the bar down the street has Eurosport ;) :-Q
Fujisan 533 Posted January 26, 2003 No probem Yoavo, but does that mean you dont have eurosport?Thats a bummer.

Chiyozakura 163 Posted January 26, 2003 I think the Hatsu Basho broadcast on Eurosport will start on February 4th. On February 2nd they will show days 10 to 15 of Kyushu Basho again.
Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted January 26, 2003 No probem Yoavo, but does that mean you dont have eurosport?Thats a bummer. I'm afraid not :~-( Eurosport is not even an option for me unless I get a satellite dish etc. However, I could get TV-Japan I think. TV-J over here shows one hour of sumo during the basho every day. I don't know if it's live or taped, just highlights, or what. I called the cable company to ask before the basho started, but got tired after waiting 20 minutes on the phone! :-@ :-@
Fujisan 533 Posted January 26, 2003 Really Chiyo? Its possible my source didnt actually say which basho,I just assumed it was Hatsu since they have shown the previous one twice already. I will still be watching it whichever it is.
Fujisan 533 Posted January 26, 2003 Sorry to hear that Yoavo,Kyu,I think being without it for my Sumo now would send me on a real downer. An unrelated question,Do you two know each other or something? Only I notice you joined on the same day and you often seem to post almost simultaneously and now this eurosport thing.Just wondered. Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted January 27, 2003 Hi, I don't think so :-D Of course, I don't know Kyukenzan-zeki's real identity, so he could be my next door neighbor :-P But that would be unlikely...
Guest Kyukenzan Posted January 27, 2003 Yes, it would be rather unlikely as long as living in USA and Sweden doesn't count as being neighbors :-D I don't think I know Yoavoshimaru either, but you can never be sure :-

Zenjimoto 40 Posted January 27, 2003 However, I could get TV-Japan I think. TV-J over here shows one hour of sumo during the basho every day. I don't know if it's live or taped, just highlights, or what. Yes, TV Japan shows LIVE sumo (basically the NHK feed) each day of the basho, starting at either 2:30am or 3:30am, depending on daylight savings time, and lasting for one and a half hours. Usually that includes all but maybe one or two Makuuchi bouts for that day. They also show the same broadcast again at about 3pm the same day, a little extended (1 hour 45 minutes) show, that often includes their "special feature" where they spotlight a particular rikishi, or some aspect of the sumo world... usually VERY interesting! The nice thing is, NHK offers english commentary in a dual-language broadcast, so you get to listen to luminaries such as Lynn Matsuoka, Dave "Holy Toledo" Wiggins, Hiro Morita, Stewart Nelson, Katrina Watts, Doreen Simmons, Kenneth Swensson, Ross Mihara, David Shapiro, Murray Johnson, and... uh... Clyde Newton. (and a couple other experts that slip my mind at this very moment!) Also often appearing as guest commentators are Azumazeki-Oyakata and Akebono-Oyakata, usually a real treat! I am getting it on Dish Network, if you can get it on your local cable network, I think you are in luck... no dish required :) I usually subscribe the day before the basho and cancel right after... costs me about $18 incl. cancellation fee to watch the basho live... a VERY reasonable price, I think :) Cheers! Manekineko 200 Posted February 5, 2003 Due to an unfortunate accident involving a snow-storm, VCR timer, and Brasilian soap-opera, I missed the days 1-3 on Eurosport (and I was taping it for my brother, too). So, if anyone hears anything about Hatsu-basho reruns, please post it here!
