And thus Kanuma-city (Tochigi) decided to help the local sandanme Shoei to be wider known at home.
The owner of a local photo studio donated a splendid photo panel of Shoei (taken after the hatsu basho when he came to his hometown) to the city hall and it was put at once on display at the entrance of the annex.

A new koenkai for Kasugayama-beya was formed in Nayoro (Hokkaido), where ozeki Nayoroiwa was from, who was the 15th Kasugayama-oyakata
The present 21st Kasugayama-oyakata (ex-Hamanishiki) was there with Shoei (see above) and ms Mankajo

Endo on the 27th talked to the young fans in his hometown, where the heya has a training camp. Kids had performed an original Endo cheer dance, his reply: "I want to do my best to be able become a hero for dream and hope."

Kasugano-beya received 1.5 tons of rice from a Tochigi pref. supporter.

It arrived after asa-geiko on the 8th and the young ones had to carry the 50 30kg sacks into the training ground and pile them up. It will be stored in the underground storehouse of the heya. They consume 15 kg at the two meals a day, so it won't even last till the end of the year. If guests are invited they use even more.

The heya gets it from many different locations and they hardly ever have to buy rice.

For the official promotion to makuuchi, Mainichi published a better pic of this party in Shiojiri-city, celebrating his juryo promotion and juryo yusho. He likes pink as does Endo, but emphasizes that he prefers the lighter shade.

Ex-prime minister Mori appears a lot in the sumo news this month.
He is from the same prefecture as new makuuchi Kagayaki and presented him with a zabuton in the same color (champagne gold) as his mawashi (and kimono): "Smash our fellow(-prefecture) Endo down once and aim for sanyaku."

Shodai had an encouragement rally in his home-town Uto-city, Kumamoto, with about 170 supporters, the mayor at the top: "After Shiranui I want him to become the next local yokozuna."
Shodai: "Because of your, my local support I was able to reach double digits. I want to aim for kachi-koshi next basho as well."
The formation of a local cheering party was announced - no koenkai - no fee, so all locals can enter freely.

The party for celebrating Chiyoshoma's juryo promotion was yesterday, 350 guests, his parents and his elder sister as well. His father was an ozeki equivalent in Mongol-zumo. Kokonoe-oyakata midway changed from suit to a traditional Mongolian outfit, that Chiyoshoma's mother had made for him in one month after he had visited Mongolia for the New Year.

Kokonoe-oyakata accompanied his first foreign sekitori to Mongolia, his first visit there.
He had promised Chiyoshoma that, having the wish to go there once: "I love challenges".
It's under minus 30°C there, but "I have been to Canada to watch the aurora, so it's all right."
Chiyoshoma's family gathers for a juryo promotion year end party and the 2 return to Japan on New Years Day.

Ex-Kyokutenho had a party celebrating his succession to the Oshima myoseki, in Iwaki-city, the home-town of his wife. About 180 supporters were there, among them the mayor, who called for him to become Iwaki support ambassador (like Kotoyuki lately for his home-town) - and he readily consented: "It's closer than Mongolia, I want to come often."

A new Tochigi prefecture koenkai for Takasago-beya: the start-up event was in Utsunomiya on the 6th with about 100 supporters. The head of the koenkai is LDP member of the House of Representatives Hajime Funada, central member is the owner of the restaurant in which the event took place. They'll have a full-fledged dohyo constructed to open mid June and have sumo taught to the kids: the goal (what else) is to produce a yokozuna from Utsunomiya.
