Masumasumasu 902 Posted September 24, 2012 In Akihabara, they have all manner of ridiculous anime action figures. Where are the sumo figures? Wouldn't Japanese boys be more interested in sumo if they could own an action figure of their favorite rikishi? I would buy them. There could be a dohyo, shimpan, gyogi, etc.
Mukonoso 273 Posted September 24, 2012 Hmmm, maybe. But then again Japanese boys are already so busy fighting or battling with everything else that can be merchandised. B-Daman, BeyBlades, Pokemon, Bakugan, slot cars, Digimon, Monster Farm, Yu-Gi-Oh and even live giant horned beetles. Sumo action figures might be kind of lame (to them) in comparison. Maybe they would be interested in a sumo card battle game with licensed pics of their favorite rikishi with other cards representing various moves and injuries... iron bug 8 Posted September 24, 2012 I agree. I've been trying, desperately, to get my hands on sumo collectibles (in the figurine form) on ebay but I always get outbid because the auctions end when I am asleep (usually shipping from Japan, I live in the U.S.) and somebody outbids me in right before it ends. It's extremely hard to find them on ebay as it is. I wish there were reasonably priced, accurate looking models of popular rikishi available.

Haha, I use Asashoryu's Slap of Doom. "The opponent gets incredibly intimidated and loses a turn." Edited September 25, 2012 by iron bug

Masumasumasu 902 Posted September 25, 2012 Those are great. I only wish that they were posable.
Washuyama 641 Posted September 25, 2012 (edited) These figurines are made of hard plastic (or resin of some sort). Years ago they were made of porcelain. I have the one above of Hakuho, one of Asashoryu and an old one of Taiho all in their own glass display case. Eventually I'll incorporate all my sumo "stuff" into one huge shrine of some sort. Also I have this which I got as a gift when I was a kid... You place the rikishi in a yotsu position and "tap" on the dohyo till they fall or scoot out of the ring...
