Kyokutenho intai after Haru 2012?

Recommended Posts

... Kyokutenho at 6-3 also is right in the mix and in his case it would be nice to be high ranked in his likely last basho in Haru before overtaking Oshima-beya.

Is this just a speculation or is it inevitable as there is no other candidate as Oshima Oyakata?

It is inevitable speculation. It may not be spoken out loud though as this can result in the NSK accelerating the intai (just ask Konishiki) - particularly with the current endeavour to have "clean" sumo after the match fixing scandal last year.

The biggest point in favour of the theory that Kyokutenho will indeed take over the stable is that there's been absolutely no public reporting about any other scenario. If an existing oyakata was in line to take over, we'd have heard about it by now.

I suppose there's one alternative scenario that also fits the available (lack of) evidence. Perhaps Hamanishiki's been biding his time to become the next Oshima.

Would be cool if Kyokutenho got to retire at a sanyaku rank.

But it's a darn waste to retire now...he could physically go on like that for some more years - just as usual. Will be soooooooo missed

:(

I don't really want to talk back here, but I for one won't miss his minimal risk at-the-office sumo. It is understandable and clever, but he's blocking a slot for somebody more exiting.

Who could be more exiting than a guy that's set to leave in four three months? (Sign of approval...)

Hmm, somebody more exciting won't be blocked...
