Any word on Sotairyu? He had that injury last basho, and I remember them saying it would take a while to heal. Is he fighting?

He's in Juryo this tournament, so he would have been on the sekitori kyujo list if he wasn't going to appear at all. That he wasn't doesn't rule out scenarios such as waiting until day 1 to see how he is, and not appearing/withdrawing as of day 2 if he still can't participate.

Jd103e Sakaguchiyama seems to be missing from the kyujo list if I parsed the torikumi correctly.

I just checked the NSK website (quickly - double checked the ranks), and the day 1 list is still the same as what I posted earlier. Of course, as we all know, that doesn't mean he's not kyujo or that they won't add names in a few days/minutes/hours. (Blinking...)

(seems like they always leave someone out when folks like yourself cross-check with the schedule)

In fairness to them, I cross-check every time nowadays, but I don't post if everything seems in order. It does seem like they're leaving somebody off the list by mistake about half the time, though.

I can't speak to this particular case, but it may happen that a man misses a bout without prior notice. A lot depends on whether one of the kashira is informed in time.

Yes, I finally got an email from him this morning, he said he may enter the 2nd week. I can't believe he would enter that quickly after surgery! It seems like a risk.. but if he does hope he'll be ok!!

Day 3

A withdraw and a return, both from the Jonidan ranks:

Withdrawing is East Jonidan 67 DAISHORIN (0-1), who lost on day 2.

Returning (Beginning) is East Jonidan 103 SAKAGUCHIYAMA, who, as Asashosakari noted, never appeared on the website's kyujo list.

West Juryo 6 KIMIKAZE has withdrawn, as of day 2. His record will go to 0-2.

Injured his ankle in the shonichi bout (I still haven't seen any sumo myself but he told me he injured it then) and says he is in terrible pain..
