MongolPower 0 Posted April 2, 2004 (edited) With his brother Sumiyabazar in Mongolia meeting with Prime Minister N. Enkhbayar I'll wait for crazy Ms. Uchidate to come up with some B.S. (degree) thing to say about this. Edited April 2, 2004 by MongolPower
Jesinofuji 11 Posted April 2, 2004 Do you know where this took place? Japan or Mongolia? Either way Ms. Looney Tunes will use it as an excuse to try to derail our Yokozuna.
Zuikakuyama 1 Posted April 2, 2004 geez, his brother is so small compared to him, and slouching too.
MongolPower 0 Posted April 2, 2004 I'm sure what was the meeting about. I heard something Asa become an ambassodor of something or something.
Zenjimoto 40 Posted April 2, 2004 Is it really a pony tail? It's kinda hard to tell from this photo, but it could well be a chon-mage? And why would the suit be a problem? Sure, they are supposed to wear traditional Japanese garb, but I would think that meeting one's own prime minister in one's own country would require attire that is appropriate for THAT occasion, not some other country's traditions. When in Mongolia, be a Mongolian... :-D Or don't tell me they met the PM of Mongolia in Japan??
Takanorappa 97 Posted April 2, 2004 (edited) I'll wait for crazy Ms. Uchidate to come up with some B.S. (degree) thing to say about this. An Orange tie?! Why it's an OUTRAGE!!! :-D Yokozuna should only wear black or navy blue ties! :-) :-) Actually, isn't it pretty rare for an active sumotori to appear at a public event (I assume this one was public) in a suit? There have been plenty of photos of rikishi working out in all manner of garb, but I don't recall ever seeing one in a suit. Any other instances out there? I would love to see some picts. Asa's looking good in that suit. I hope he doesn't get too used to it, though. Edited April 2, 2004 by Takanorappa
Kintamayama 47,186 Posted April 2, 2004 AFAIK, regardless of anything, an active Sumotori is not allowed to appear in public in "Western" garb. Maybe, though, meeting someone's Head of state abroad overrides this, but somehow I doubt that. And if it's a ponytail, that is certainly a no-no anywhere. Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted April 2, 2004 I think Ms Uchidate and selected others will have to come to terms with some non-Japanese customs employed by foreign sumotori while in their home countries. It's part of allowing foreigners in. The orange tie reminds me of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" series and the orange scarf worn by the President of the Galaxy (or whatever the title was). Xris 2 Posted April 2, 2004 I wonder. Is this photo not about Shoryu's appearance in suit in Mongolia at the end of 2003? (which was already much discussed).
Zentoryu 154 Posted April 2, 2004 I wonder. Is this photo not about Shoryu's appearance in suit in Mongolia at the end of 2003? (which was already much discussed). I tend to think it is. I don't think Shoryu is stupid enough to make the same mistake twice. If he has done this again, then Ms. Uchidate will be the least of his worries.
