He does seem to have blossomed recently. His yusho speech last basho (and I think the one before) was much more chatty and warm than previously. I think that he's basically a shy person who understands that his duty is to come out of his shell. Perhaps he is maturing as a person. I wasn't one of the people complaining, though, because I don't in any case much like the way sportsmen/women are encouraged to talk themselves up. Reserved is fine by me. My somewhat vague point was that the aforementioned people regularly made it sound as though his previous behaviour was due to character flaws, not merely reserve and insecurity with his role, especially in comparison to the outgoing nature of that other guy we used to have around. People are often quite snide about reserved characters (and use epithets such as "stuck up" about them). It's quite funny that it's sometimes the same people who are snide about people at the other end of the spectrum and talk a lot (and those people are "full of themselves").
