Mark Buckton 1 Posted March 28, 2004 Quite a few chaps and chapesses have had banzuke sent over the past month or so and no problems have thus far arisen - only notes afterwards concern how it feels to hold a real banzuke etc. No names - they can post if they want to. So, the offer is there again - WHO WANTS ONE next time? Comes out April 26th (I think) No profit is made on my part and the general fee is 5 Euros (being the smallest note or similar equivalents in sterling / US dollars). This only goes to cover postage and packing plus the banzuke itself. (In love...) Note to Rijicho - please remove this if you see it as a money making scheme. Yangnomazuma 79 Posted March 28, 2004 ANR - I'd love to have one and could actually use that funky American money. Let me know what you need from me and I'll get you my info.
Mark Buckton 1 Posted March 28, 2004 ANR - I'd love to have one and could actually use that funky American money. Let me know what you need from me and I'll get you my info. Y-san, in the past few hours, quite a few have contacted me on this so I am sending out some mails today. I'll forward an e-mail to you so we can work it out. I will use an obvious title using Banzuke & Adachinoryu. Looks like it will be even more popular this time round (Sigh...)
Mark Buckton 1 Posted March 29, 2004 (edited) Over 10 thus far plus some from last time - the banzuke is reaching the masses. For those who haven't had one before and without telling you how to suck eggs you will enjoy it and I would suggest priniting off the 'shikona' meaning post (elsewhere) to hep you follow any kanji you are not familiar with. ANR (Laughing...) 'suck eggs' kind of means how to do something you already know how to (ish) Eg - telling your grandmother how to bake a cake is like telling her how to suck eggs. PLUS - Yubi-san, Asashosakari and any others I dig (annoy) here and who annoy me. A banzuke is above all that. We disagree, so what. It doesn't mean I won't send one out to you boys too if you want one - of course not. You are as welcome as any others. The SF is the SF - a banzuke is real life. Itachi 396 Posted March 30, 2004 Thanks for the offer to send a real banzuke Adachinoryu, I am lucky enough to have one sent to me in Canada before each basho courtesy of my wife's uncle who knows Nishikikaze's father. The banzuke always has the Oruguma-beya stamp on it and my uncle-in-law, if one may call him that, receives it in time to pass it to me for my archives several days before the start of each tournament. I love opening and displaying each new banzuke as it arrives and searching for the shikona of my favorite non-sekitori amongst the tiny squished in calligraphy. I recommend to any sumo fan with or without an interest in reading shikona in japanese to acquire one of these for their collection. Mark Buckton 1 Posted March 30, 2004 (edited) Itachi-san, Guess your uncle (in-law) is a Koen-kai member to get one sent out stamped or well connected. My own are either those I buy or those the lads at Tamanoi stamp and give out too. B-) Got a framed (like a house shape) beauty last Kyushu. :-) I was over the moon. Got that from a pretty senior koen kai chappie locally. (have also got a few with restaurant stamps etc - give to customers if they spend / drink enough - usually not a problem :-( ;-) ) Wife not too happy with it - too big - so it sits in my office just now. Ho hum. This though - "I recommend to any sumo fan with or without an interest in reading shikona in Japanese to acquire one of these for their collection". Listen to Itachi-san boys and girls. You know it makes sense Edited March 30, 2004 by Adachinoryu
Naganoyama 6,024 Posted March 30, 2004 I love opening and displaying each new banzuke as it arrives and searching for the shikona of my favorite non-sekitori amongst the tiny squished in calligraphy. I recommend to any sumo fan with or without an interest in reading shikona in japanese to acquire one of these for their collection. Adachi-san sent me one last time round. I had previously only seen pictures of it in books and on the internet. I had a real thrill holding it in my hand and a lot of pleasure poring over it to see what I could recognise. (Much easier with a dual-script banzuke in one hand although some of you might consider it cheating on my part! ;-)). So I can definitely recommend it on my part. (And although I originally thought I would only ask for the one, I find myself quite happily in on this round too).
Mark Buckton 1 Posted April 14, 2004 Boys and girls, Asians, Europeans, North Americans and Scandinavians thus far (not missed anyone I hope) I have been pretty inundated with the banzuke requests this time compared to last. Will say though that any last minute people and anyone who may have forgotten their initial mails let me know quick please. Week and a half or so but envelopes, postage etc must be sorted. Mark Buckton 1 Posted May 3, 2004 Anybody NOT received it yet? Have heard from a few (EU area chaps & N.America) that have but nothing else. Guess no news is good news. B-)
