Tokusegawa, new Makuuchi Mongolian, gets his KK today: " I still can't fathom it. Before the basho I had back pains and couldn't do any keiko. I couldn't even beat the Makushita guys. Still, I did a lot of shiko and suriashi. I must apologize to those others who actually did real keiko.. I hope I don't go 0-15 next basho.."

New heart throb Okinoumi, another new Makuuchi, falling on his pretty face today from a dual throw: "My nose hurts.. I thought I broke it.. It's big, you know.."

Takamisakari, 5 straight losses and looking as if he is going to cry any minute: " I'm weak and there is nothing I can do about it. All I can do is give it all I've got.."

Tokitenkuu, first double-digit wins since Nagoya 2006: "As long as I'm winning, when I'm up on the dohyo, I forget about my injuries. Still, I didn't have that 'winning sensation'. I've got to win when I'm in good shape as well. It's not over yet - two more days!"

Aminishiki, getting his 7th win after a monoii against Toyonoshima: "It was a mutual throw so I figured we would have to redo it. What really shocked me was that I fell on my head and my hair became undone.. It turned out OK in the end though, since I won.."

Toyonoshima looked disappointed and said nothing.

Tochiouzan, beating Kotomitsuki for the first time after six straight losses: "I'm delighted. I told myself if I stopped moving I would lose, so I kept moving.. I'll go all out and do my own brand of sumo till the end.""

Kisenosato, rebounding in the second half of the basho, now in need of one more win to remain in sanyaku: "It's because I had different opponents.. I'd like to somehow do well these next two days.."

Miyabiyama, being totally outclassed by Baruto's tsuki-oshi: "I don't know what kind of keiko he's been doing but the difference in power is mindboggling. Before, his tsuppari was not accurate. Today it was spot on.. He is mighty mighty!"

Baruto, totally obliterating Miyabiyama: "I could see my opponent well. It was good Sumo. My opponent has long hands so I knew I had to keep him away from my mawashi. I decided to come out pushing.."

Tomozuna Oyakata: "Baruto is really strong. You can't say that 12 wins are not enough. At this point, I see no obstacles for his promotion!"

Musashigawa rijicho : "The content of his sumo is good - he has the power of an Ozeki. It is Ozeki Sumo!"

Harumafuji, second straight basho with double-digit wins (Hakuhou has 17 straight..) but losing two straight in the second half of the basho: "When you lose, it brings you down. We still have two days so I'll gambarize one bout at a time."

KaioU, getting thrown by Hakuhou and crumbling at the knees: "I'd say it was pretty pitiful. Just a bit more to go, so if I manage to do good Sumo that would be good."

Hakuhou, beating KaioU, after KaioU got his favorite left hand inside grip. "I was 100% OK, but he was 120%, so I waited for my opening... " Asked about Baruto's sumo today: "That tsuki-oshi was fantastic! He's in great form". When reminded that if Baruto loses tomorrow, he would clinch the yusho: "I don't mind either way. After all, there are some things that I can do, and some that are not up to me.."

I thought the same thing. The only mawashi Miyabiyama's ever intentionally touched is his own...

Sadly, I was wrong of course. The correct translation: "My opponent has long hands so it's difficult to grab his mawashi."

It could probably be translated as "my opponent has long ARMS so its difficult to grab his mawashi". The Japanese word "te" is mostly translated as hand, but can actually refer to a bigger area (up to the ellbow?) than the English (or German) word "hand".

Indeed, long arms sounds much better than long hands, for sure.. Jonosuke should be back today, hopefully..

Hey, we are all very thankful for Your "Rikishi Speakishi"! Jonosuke only posting rikishi talk on weekends has left a big gap, and Youre filling in perfectly. If this "hopefully" is not about self-doubts and quality but about avoiding conflict with Your wife, I can understand, though ;)

Hey, we are all very thankful for Your "Rikishi Speakishi"! Jonosuke only posting rikishi talk on weekends has left a big gap, and Youre filling in perfectly. If this "hopefully" is not about self-doubts and quality but about avoiding conflict with Your wife, I can understand, though ;)

I enjoy doing them, and as I am doing them for my newsletter anyway, it's just a copy/ paste thingy.. I just find myself making way too many mistakes, as I am impatient and never double-check stuff, as many forum members know by now.

As for my wife, she wants me to go with her to a bonsai exhibition., something that really excites me to the hilt. Should I?
