Mark Buckton 1 Posted November 24, 2003 repeated stops by police to check my bike / ID this happened to me just a couple weeks ago (Sign of disapproval) and me 16 times to date! >;-) Doesn't get better with times / age etc and with some current politicians mouthing off that foreigners are all bad (esp down in Kanagawa) it ain't gonna get better anytime soon. ANR (Sigh...) sorry!
Yubiquitoyama 4 Posted November 24, 2003 (edited) By the way, did you guys think about the possibility that Asashoryu was not to win this basho? Something different about his sumo? Losing inexplicably and while doing completely strange sumo to him on senshuraku? A Japanese Ozeki suddenly surging, starting a Yokozuna run into the new year, just after another Yokozuna retires?Coincidence, I am sure... Everybody had that thought. It's a completely ridiculously utterly worthless discussion though, since there is no way in hell we or anyone we know will have any chance of even closing in on something resembling an indication of an answer to whether that might or might not be true. Kintamayama 45,530 Posted November 24, 2003 (edited) By the way, did you guys think about the possibility that Asashoryu was not to win this basho? Something different about his sumo? Losing inexplicably and while doing completely strange sumo to him on senshuraku? A Japanese Ozeki suddenly surging, starting a Yokozuna run into the new year, just after another Yokozuna retires?Coincidence, I am sure... I really doubt it. This is Asashouryuu, who hasn't exactly shown blind utter respect for the NSK. I don't see anyone poilitely "asking" Shouryu to take a dive and living to talk about it. Anyone else..maybe..I do believe the Y exists in subtle ways as anyone who saw a few of the final days' bouts might suspect. Shouryuu? No way. Yet.. And it wasn't as if Azuma started the Basho off very weakly, and suddenly, after Maru announced his retirement, became Elvis. He was awesome all the way, and it was quite plausible that the Yusho could be his after the first 5 days. Edited November 24, 2003 by Kintamayama
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted November 24, 2003 However, as is often the case, it means that foreign residents of Japan support 'other' foreign residents ver batum (is that its spelling / usage - I'm tired) or without consideration for the bigger picture. Is this the word you're after?
