Hi everyone,

This is basically a repeat poll from previous years....

Previous editions can be found here:->

2008

2007

2006

2005

There are only 3 questions allowed for new polls.

I have kept the usual one (Question 1), but following on from a thread elsewhere, I have dropped the 'zensho yusho' question, to replace it with two new ones.

Someone thought that even if Asashoryu cannot win a yusho, he will consistent at getting at least 12 wins, and so should always be a yusho challenger. (Hence question 2)

Someone else thought that Asashoryu does not have that many yushos left in him, and will be retiring soon (Hence question 3).

What do you think?

Please comment below.

Looks like you and I both think he will retire very soon.

And t looks like I'm the only one who doesn't..

Though it seems like Asashoryu is running out of gas, I do believe that he has an extra tank somewhere out there...

Voted for 3 Yusho, 4 12+ win Basho, and 6 to 10 more Yusho until retirement.

My brain said I should vote for the expected values, which would IMO be something like one yusho, two 12+ and 2-3 more total yusho, but since we're stuck with this particular Asashoryu, not the average one from a couple hundred statistical trials, I voted straight zeros, too.

Thanks for the memory and hope he enjoys the tranquility of his home land.

I expect him to come once more strong and have one Yusho and one more strong Basho with 12+ wins next year. But it is all I can see in his future for now. Still I

I voted for 2 Yushos, 3 12+ wins, and 6 to 10 Yushos before retirement. Of course, this is my optimistic choice. I could have chosen strait zeros, but, well, I think he'll make it. I think he still has the means to win again. And we don't know what can happen this year. Maybe some high ranked rikishis will get seriously injured, or, or, or, etc. So he has some chances.

Interesting that everybody who voted for zero yusho in 2009 also thinks he's totally done (same number of votes for zero total yusho) and won't enjoy an Akebono-style bounceback later on, either.

I will be closing this poll in about a week's time. Still time to vote (Just what doctor ordered...)

I've said one yusho this year and a handful more (2-3) for his career. I don't think Hatsu will be the end for Asa, but I have a suspicion that he will limp through this year, being relatively good with the numbers when he competes (12+ three times). I have the feeling he is about to get into the kaio and Chiyotaikai cycle of there always being something wrong physically and eventually the expectations put on a yokozuna to win yusho and be consistently competitive will force him to retire in the next couple of years.

It would appear that this year, we expect him to win 2 yushos at most, with a sizeable number of us expecting him to win none at all! (This is a big difference from previous editions of this poll).

However, in regards to whether or not he will perform at a 'Yokozuna level' (12 or more wins), we expect him to do so for about half of the bashos.

Roughly half of us expect him to win a further 1-5 yushos in his career, with roughly 25% thinking that he won't win any more, and another 25% thinking that he will win 6 or more yushos!

We can't all be right....

Asashoryu won 2 yushos in 2009 - so we were pretty much spot on with that.

He had three bashos in which he won at least 12 bouts - so again well done us.

Unfortunately the last poll's accuracy can only be determined once Asashoryu has hung up his tsuna. However, over 30% of us are already out with our predictions.
