Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted October 20, 2003 (edited) Fernsehen.ch says sumo is shown from October 25th to 30th. Ten separate broadcasts so I guess they show the replay right away. Fegi-zeki was faster... (In a state of confusion...) Edited October 20, 2003 by Kotoseiya Yuichi
Feginowaka 53 Posted October 20, 2003 Fegi-zeki was faster... (No, no, no...) (Showing tongue at someone...) Faster by one minute, that was close... (In a state of confusion...)
Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted October 20, 2003 Why don't they show replays right after the basho?
furanohana 3 Posted October 20, 2003 Why don't they show replays right after the basho? Marc Mingoia, the French sumo commentator for Eurosport, explained some times ago on the French sumo forum that they needed at least 10 days or so to receive the tapes and to mount them (even if the greatest part of the job is already done, if I recall correctly). And they have to find a place in the Eurosport schedules. This last reason is why it takes about a month in general. They can't air the sumo when they already have some live stuff scheduled for early evening, for example. I think the fact that sumo is not a priority for Eurosport is also a reason. (No, no, no...) But, from time to time, they manage to air the replays quite quickly after the basho actually ended. It seems to me that they indeed aired it only 10 days after the basho, once. (In a state of confusion...)
Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted October 20, 2003 I believe 10 days for the tapes, OK. Some time in the mail from Japan to Eurospot HQ (London, right?), some time for someone to verify the tapes are correct and of decent quality. But finding time I don't think takes a month: show it at 4am or something when no one else is awake :-P
Asashosakari 20,209 Posted October 20, 2003 I believe 10 days for the tapes, OK. Some time in the mail from Japan to Eurospot HQ (London, right?), some time for someone to verify the tapes are correct and of decent quality. But finding time I don't think takes a month: show it at 4am or something when no one else is awake :-P Well, they do pay money for the right to show those tapes, so intentionally broadcasting them at an hour when your income from commercials would be only marginally above zero doesn't sound like the smartest business decision to me. :-/ Sumo may have only a minority following, but it's there, and for all the criticism Eurosport receives, I'm glad they usually do find a decent hour to show it, even if it means waiting an additional week or two. Of course, as I'm a student, 11pm qualifies as a decent hour for me; other people may disagree with that. B-) At any rate, Eurosport's daily programming schedule usually ends around 1.30am CET (the remainder of the night is occupied by those dreaded infomercials), so 4am is out of the question anyway. :-P
Fujisan 533 Posted October 20, 2003 Well thanks to both Fegi and Koto anyway- I generally check the on screen proramming at least once a day, just in case but I still seem to miss now and then(The recent replays from Nagoya for one) So I will be extra vigilant at the weekend.
