Kyokai Changed their "Matches" Link?

Recommended Posts

I have noticed when I go to the Nihon Sumo Kyokai's (goo site) this Basho, to look at the matches for the next day, the Rikishi's history stats are not there against the opponents they are scheduled to meet in the Dohyo.

It used to be when you clicked on the Rikishi's name on the scheduled matches, it would tell you when they have met and who won that bout. It went back a year or so. It was very helpful in deciding my picks for some games that I play.

Now when I click on the Rikishi's name, it just takes you to their picture and profile, which doesn't give the detail that I'm looking for... (Sign of approval...)

Does anyone know why the Kyokai changed that format? I wrote to them but I got no answer. I was wondering (since everyone here knows so much (Showing respect...) ), if there was another place where I can get the same info that I'm looking for.

Thank you in advance! (I am not worthy...)

You can now get there by clicking the rikishi's record rather than his name.

I haven't checked yet, but it's possible that the records and their links are missing on the "next day" torikumi when the current day's bouts haven't happened yet (i.e. between noon and ~6pm JST, or possibly all the way to midnight), as that's how it used to be on the old-style pages. In that case, it might be possible to get the records to display by adding &kekka=1 to the page location.

No idea why they did it, but I know why I would have done it...now, when you click on a rikishi's shikona here, here and here, you always get to the same page, like most people would expect when they encounter identically-titled links. The old way on the torikumi pages always drove me nuts, but I may be a bit peculiar with that kind of thing. I think it's much more logical now.

Thank you for the reply, Asashosakari! I've tried several different ways and it always brings up the Rikishi profile when you click on their name... (Sign of approval...) But it is consistant, I must say. AND maybe they fixed it that way so it will be consistant for everyone... But I REALLY miss that! :'-( (Showing respect...)

I just wish I could see a little history of what kind of record they have against the scheduled Rikishi they will be meeting the next day. It used to be so handy for me. Maybe they will fix it just for me, me, me... :-P (I am not worthy...)

Sorry, I think I confused you with that second paragraph. (Sign of approval...) See below again.

OK...Maybe I'm dumber than what I think... (Oops!) When I go to the Record, it only shows how that specific rikishi is doing so far in this Basho ans who was their opponent and the kimarite. What I'm looking for is how they have done AGAINST the scheduled opponent in the past.

Maybe I'm still going to the wrong place... Sorry if I've confused you, as well... (Sign of approval...)

No, I meant click their record on the matchup page (same as before); I wasn't referring to the tournament records pages.

Anyway, on the strength of the "picture = 1000 words" theory... (Sign of approval...)

JTA for any still confused - the top part of the page that opens when you click the record displays both rikishi's current tournament record. Scroll down and the bottom part of the page lists their head-to-head record for the last 6 tournaments (not as much info as you get on some of the daily games, like SekiToto or Chain, but it's something)

If all else fails, try this. Click on the .html entry for one of the rikishi, and scroll down in the resulting listing for the second rikishi. It gives you a lifetime of matchups, even though you probably only really need that provided in the procedure detailed above.

OMG!!! Asashosaki-sama.... You ARE my hero!! (In love...) Yes, a picture does does speak a 1K words and here again, it proves that theory!! (Sign of approval...) I can't believe that was all I had to do now, was to click on the numbers! :-)

Thanks to everyone else for all your great ideas as well! If the link ever goes down, I have other ways to check the stats! (Showing respect...) You're the BEST!! (Yusho winner...)
