Zenjimoto 40 Posted August 27, 2003 LOL, isn't that ever the truth. I swear, that guy is going to start his Ozeki run someday and the world as we know it will cease to exist. (Ranting...) However, I used to think this about Takanotsuru (i.e. being the quintessential Juryo rikishi, a guy who is too big and strong to fall to Makushita but way too flabby to ever make it to the top ranks) - and look... he did BOTH!! B-) Shows you what *I* know! (Applauding...) Cheers Zenjimoto

Feginowaka 53 Posted August 27, 2003 (I'm probably the only one who makes a guess for Juryo though, eh. B-) ) No, you're not. I always make a Juryo Banzuke guess for myself every basho (Applauding...)
Yubiquitoyama 4 Posted August 27, 2003 (edited) They already counted the upcoming 2003.09 basho for Aminishiki/Asofuji, but didn't do so for Toyozakura/Kitazakura (their 9 basho should be listed as 10 by the same standard). Hey, I said it was minor. (Ranting...) Nothing wrong with nitpicking B-) Actually, I think I Edited August 27, 2003 by Yubiquitoyama

Asashosakari 20,215 Posted August 27, 2003 (edited) Harunoyama IS pretty much the personification of a Juryo rikishi right now To add some mostly useless trivia (somebody please beat me with a stick the next time I feel like looking up such stuff again): It's somewhat ironic that the other quintessential Juryo rikishi of the moment, Wakakosho, started his current Juryo run in the same basho as Harunoyama did, namely Haru 2001. Of course, he did it by coming down from Makuuchi, not by coming up from Makushita. Both guys are entering their 16th consecutive Juryo basho in Aki. Other guys with semi-long Juryo streaks are Senshuyama (10th consecutive basho including Aki, and on the way to becoming the next Mr. Juryo), Oginishiki (9th), Oikari (7th), and probably most sadly of all, ex-Sanyaku hopeful Hayateumi (also 7th). Nobody else currently ranked in Juryo has spent more than 4 consecutive basho there, which illustrates its volatile nature quite nicely, I think.
