Kintamayama 47,175 Posted July 31, 2003 (edited) Musashimaru is participating in bouts in the summer jungyo. It was hinted he would only do the dohyo-iri, but he came out and beat KaioU by yorikiri (using hidari-yotsu, his left hand!!) in the Musubi no ichiban. "I am useless", he joked after the match. Musashigawa Oyakata:" He will only do what he can. The fans are expecting him. For his sake as well, he'll be back, slowly but Shirley!". http://sports.yahoo.co.jp/sumo/headlines/n...s_00000013.html According to sources close to the Mongolians, the "handshake peace accord" isn't worth the paper it isn't written on. "That's not the Mongolian way. That is the Japanese way. It means nothing to Mongolians. The Mongolian way (according to Kyokutenzan, Shoes-on's tsukebito and long time Makushita wrestler) is this: Both parties lunge for each other's knees, have a drink together, open their hearts and talk it over. All this is essential. "Since nothing remotely resembling this happened, it isn't over by far", said a Mongolian source. At Jungyo today, Asa did not look Shoes-on in the eye, and it apparently was very apparent, apparently. The "handshake" took place in the hanamichi: Asa was walking up the hanamichi after his dohyo-iri. He encountered Shoes-on, who was in the midst of a TV interview. After all the talk of the YDC and the media hype, Asa could not have slipped passed Shoes-on and the TV crews without some kind of gesture.. He HAD to do the handshake - no choice, say the media. So in front of 20 or so reporters, they shook hands. "Are you well?", he asked in Mongolian. This went on for three seconds flat, without either of them looking the other in the eye. Earlier in the morning, Shoes-on waited for ten minutes outside Asa's dressing room to no avail. "I'm more tense than during the Basho. I'm really tired", he said, waiting for the meeting to happen. It happened 4 hours later.. "After we shook hands, it's all behind us. I think the Yokozuna agrees. Off the dohyo, he's my nice Mongolian Junior [kawaii Mongoru no kouhai} (Uh oh..). I hope he gets the Yusho", said Shoes on. "Maybe in Sapporo, we'll have a chance to share a drink", he added. As opposed to Shoes' optimism, Asa's total silence was deafening. It seemed that he couldn't hide the fact that he was less than pleased with this "bogus reconciliation", as the reporters are calling it. Kyokutenzan, Shoes-on's Makushita tsukebito, said, "This is by no means a reconciliation in Mongolian terms". "There is a big difference (culture-wise) in how you go about reconciling in Japan and in Mongolia." Takasago Oyakata:"They shook hands and that's that. I think it's important that they settled their differences. What else is needed? ", he asked. Reporters say this "bogus reconciliation" warrants everyone to keep a close look out for more trouble. http://sports.yahoo.co.jp/sumo/headlines/f...s_00000004.html http://sports.yahoo.co.jp/sumo/headlines/n...s_00000012.html Edited July 31, 2003 by Kintamayama

Zenjimoto 40 Posted July 31, 2003 I'd have to say that, Kyokushuzan looks genuinely happy on these pictures... waiting 10 minutes in front of the dressing room, and his really poor performance in the basho after the incident lead me to believe that he is by far the one who is having trouble with the feud and would dearly love to make up for real and move on... while Asa doesn't seem too eager at all... Cheers Zenjimoto
Fujisan 533 Posted July 31, 2003 I say if they cant get on and make peace they should just stay out of each others way-The only place they should meet is on the Dohyo and so long as they keep it clean they should just let it rest.
Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted July 31, 2003 Maybe Asashoryu is just pissed off at the media, making a big deal out of everything. That's why he's stone-faced to them... (Showing tongue at someone...)
Zenjimoto 40 Posted August 2, 2003 Perhaps this stone-facedness is the first sign of his upcoming transformation into a more "Yokozuna-like personality" a la Takanohana (although I shudder at that thought!) Cheers Zenjimoto
