In-depth summary of YDC decisions

Recommended Posts

The YDC has asked Rijicho to directly take charge in seeing to it that Asashouryuu will get back in the "right direction." Last time, after the May incidents, the YDC asked Takasago Oyakata to do it. He evidently did a poor job, in their eyes. Now they want the Kyokai leader to take the matter in his hands. "If something happens again next basho, we shall summon the Yokozuna for a personal interview, where we will deal with caution, encouragement, and intai". These three phrases seem to be what the YDC is in charge of. This "caution, encouragement, and intai", thing is a recurring theme in all the reports. Anyone have an idea what this means, I mean what the subtext is?

"This is a good idea. I, being a former Yokozuna myself, am in the position to instruct him. I am not thinking of meeting him at this point.( well, a bit difficult, since Asa is in Mongolia, a move reporters think was inappropriate at this time, to say the least..)

If something does come up though, I will most certainly exercise my leadership," said Rijicho.

When Kitanoumi Rijicho was active, he went with his Shisho, the then Mihogaseki (ex-Oozeki Masuiyama)to the then Rijicho Kasugano (ex- Yokozuna Tochinishiki)in order to learn from him how to be a "leader".

As Kitanoumi is the Rijicho with the most championships ever (24), the "hansoku Yokozuna" Asashouryuu should be inclined to listen to him with interest, say the papers. If he doesn't listen and has a relapse, he will be summoned to the YDC, where he may get the dreaded "intai kankoku", or advice to retire, ala "an offer he can't refuse".

In 1999, Yokozuna Wakanohana was summoned to the YDC after his real MK (7-8). He received a "close to caution encouragement" (those words again..).AND an "intai kankoku" as well. Then Chairman of YDC gave him three bashos to get his act together. Waka missed the next two due to injuries, made a forced return on the third, and retired on day 5.

Asashouryuu was asked at the airport if he though this was the right time to leave for Mongolia, while the YDC were deliberating. He kept silent and boarded the plane. Takasago Oyakata explained that he would be back for Natsu Jungyou on the 28th, and that he promised to start full keiko for Aki, and keep in shape. So he was allowed to go. He took a trainer with him , and is expected to start rehabilitation of his injured neck. If I understand correctly, he is slated to meet Shoes-on on the 28th as well.

YDC chairman says that Rijicho's statements regarding KaioU notwithstanding ("along the lines of "A 12-3 is not a good start for a Yokozuna run, etc..) has hinted that a 14-1 Yusho may be looked upon favorably when they will convene to deliberate again after Aki basho.

KaioU, when asked about this said "I'll take it slowly, at my own pace. One way or another, it will happen".

One thing is for sure this is gonna be a serious test of character for Asa-Not only in keeping his behaviour in check but also not losing his spark while hes doing it.

I bet Takasago-Oyakata is not liking the YDC too much. First they tell him how to do his job, then they tell him he's not doing it well, then they recommend that they themselves come visit the heya. Apparently they think he needs (Clapping wildly...)

He's probably thinking

(Hitting with chair...) but is too polite to say it (Holiday feeling...)

Well... quite honestly... maybe he ISN'T doing his job all too well, seeing all the controversy. But who am I to judge... (Holiday feeling...)
