It's pretty funno to hear the swedish eurosport commentators views on henka. Especially after having read the sumotalk.com comments  B-)

I dont think he's ever thought the thought that henka could be a bad thing. He just thinks it's a brilliant strategic move!

This is the same guy who believed my April Fool's joke about foreign rikishi being limited to one per country from next year, right? :-D (Clapping wildly...) :-D :-O :-D (Laughing...)

It was April 1, 2003 in Japan, and a couple of "false news" items began to appear in the Sumo Mailing List (SML) or maybe this forum or Miki's forum, so I thought of making a contribution as well... so, I concocted THIS:

And the fact that henka is a legitimate strategy doesn't make it wrong not to like it. I mean, nobody likes a soccer team that only defends for 90 minutes, hoping for a mistake by the other team. Especially, when the competition level is high. It's the same with rikishi.

Not really. A good henka that lasts a split second is being compared to a bunker that lasts 90 minutes? A good henka (yes, Chiyotaikai has some really good ones, seriously) is far more exciting. No comparison.

That was just an example to show that there is a difference between legitimate and desirable. No one ever said henkas weren't legitimate.

QttP brought up the perfect comparison for a henka. It is exactly the picture of two football teams defending for the whole match. This year's Champions League final I turned in for the penalties because it was obvious that there would be no goals in the 120 minutes...

Looking forward to an exciting football match (and football is an exciting sport :'-() and then watching a boring 0-0- is like waiting for a great sumo match and seeing a guy lying on the dohyo after one second. Of course you can argue it is the mistake of the guy falling on his face but I still think that a sumotori should go for a tachi-ai and show an interesting bout.
