Wakanoho and the wall, Part 5

Recommended Posts

Although Wakanoho will not officially be a sekitori until the next banzuke, I wonder if he will start wearing a white mawashi in training before then? I doubt that will happen on jungyo but I'd say it will at the heya.

In the heya at keiko he definitely will, but I think only after the Banzuke is announced. Or not, but at the heya, for sure.

Congrats to Wakanoho and his fans for the promotion!

As far as I am concerned, the more Caucasian wrestlers become sekitori, the better. I am wishing the same to Takanoyama, although he is still struggling in upper middle makushita.

Wakanohou injured his lower back on day 8 in his match against Moukonami. "I told the Oyakata that I'm doomed this basho, but he said it was pathetic to lose to an injury and that I should go out there as if my life depended upon it, and it worked..", he said grinning sheepishly (or goatishly..) . "My, he's a man!! He gambarized well!!", said his mother upon hearing of his achievement, by way of a phone call from Hakurozan. Wakanohou wrestled in the same gym as the Karamazov brothers back home, and his father is very close to them. When he arrived in Japan at the age of 16 he knew nothing about sumo. He was taken aback when he first saw the circular dohyo. At first he was taken into Otake beya's custody. "When I saw Rohou-zeki in his mawashi he seemed to be freezing.. When I put on the mawashi for the first time it was painful. It felt irritating. I was embarrassed.. But after a month, I felt good..", he said, laughing. His favorite grip is migi-yotsu. His aspiration is Takanohana, who he watched on TV. His favorite active rikishi is Hakuhou. "I want to reach Makuuchi as soon as possible!!", he said.

Does that mean that Wakanoho's father is fond of Dostoyevskiy who was fond of sumo? I had no idea! I hope Smerdyakov is not Wakanoho's role model. :-)
