Chijanofuji 113 Posted June 25, 2003 Hi All, After surprisingly receiving the March 2003 issue of Sumo World - following a gap of more than a year in which I and most (former) oversees subscribers received squat, I did't hear any mention of anyone receiving the May issue. Did anyone get it? I for one certainly did not! (Sign of disapproval) If no one got it - Is the magazine even still in business? The http://www.sumoworld.com site is also down (again)... Regardless of that, here's my main question. Can anyone (other than Clyde, who obviously hasn't been replying to messages sent to him) help me to complete my Sumo World Collection? Here are the issues that I'm still looking for: 1972 September (unofficial pre-issue) 1985 September 2002 January 2002 March 2002 May 2002 July 2002 September 2002 November 2003 January 2003 May (if it did indeed come out) Either (color) photo copies or original issues will do. Thank in advance for any replies!
Yubiquitoyama 4 Posted June 25, 2003 I didn't get it but I can assure you there was a May issue. One was sold on ebay (and possibly is still on sale) so it seems it has reached some people at least.

Chijanofuji 113 Posted June 25, 2003 What a collection! It would be very nice to read it through. It must have taken some time (and money!) to get it to this point... Well it did cost me quite a bit of money, but surprisingly little time... (Cheers...) I was lucky enough to get most of them in one big swoop from a disgruntled subscriber who sold his entire collection in one go! (Applauding...) And yes, it is quite a read! B-) I am thinking of scanning them all in some day and making them available online (in a secret link or directory, after all there are copyright issues involved here), but it would take quite a bit of time to do this, not to mention take up a huge amount of web space as well :-) Right now I am scanning the Hoshitori Hyo pages -depicting which Makuuchi rikishi beat whom and on what day- from 1974 through 1988. Doitsuyama (who suggested this to me) and I will then process this data into MS Excel so we can make it available to the Sumo internet community. In fact, If any of you want to have a copy of my Hoshitori Hyo scans feel free to download them from my site at http://www.chijanofuji.com/HoshitoriHyo/! Right now 1983 through 1988 are already online and in the next few days I will be adding 1974 through 1982. The scans are neatly zipped per year (about 2,9 Mb each). Unfortunately the full Makuuchi data (and scan) for Nagoya 1985 is not available because I am missing the September 1985 issue of Sumo World (Applauding...) But I am at least able to reconstruct the Sanyaku bouts for that basho from this well-known Japanese site... (Applauding...)

This is awesome. B-) I can hardly wait for the spreadsheet(s). Thanks a LOT for providing this stuff to us Chija. (Sign of approval) (Applauding...)
Zenjimoto 40 Posted June 26, 2003 I wonder... is this the end of Sumo World then? Since the latest issue seems nowhere to be found? Could this be IT? (Eating...) Cheers Zenjimoto
Chijanofuji 113 Posted June 26, 2003 I wonder... is this the end of Sumo World then? Since the latest issue seems nowhere to be found? Could this be IT? Nope, I have already received word that the May 2003 issue was/is available at newsstands in Japan. It's just us "foreigners" who have to do without... (In a bad mood...) Takanobaka 0 Posted June 29, 2003 Doh! Wish I could report that I got it, but alas, I did not....
Takanorappa 97 Posted July 1, 2003 (edited) No issues have shown up the Massashigawa-beya area, either. I have spotted a couple of the May issues on eBay. Asashoryu's on the back cover. Looks like some Taka picts inside, as well. Unfortunately, it looks eBay is the only way to get the mag if your not in Japan. (Just do not get it...) Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted July 1, 2003 Does anyone know the circulation figures for Sumo world, especially in Japan? (In a state of confusion...)
