Musashimaru- Hmmm..

Recommended Posts

Musashimaru's hopes of returning in Nagoya are getting dimmer by the minute. Although he has resumed training these last three days with Miyabiyama and Buyuuzan among others, he has hardly been able to use his left hand at all.

Oyakata: " Condition? Not even 50% yet. We haven't decided if he will participate in Nagoya", he said, hinting towards kyujo possibility.

Musa: "We'll go to Nagoya and see," he said humbly.

Ok so if he misses this basho how many more could he possiably miss before the Kyokai lays down the mandate to fight or retire?

Well, Nagoya would be his fourth consecutive absence. I believe in September he's already expected to participate although if he doesn't come back even then, there still won't be demands of retirement as the precedent of Takanohana is too close still. By November there certainly will be demands.

What annoyed me most in Takanohana's case is that the kyujo announcements came so late. That disappointed especially. Had they told well beforehand that he'll be absent, I wouldn't have been so annoyed as I wouldn't have felt somehow cheated. By now I've begun to realize this might well be a career-ending injury for Musashimaru. A wrist injury didn't sound too serious to me at first but then again, am I a doctor?

Sumo will always miss someone of Marus stature Yoavo-They will be getting more sunlight now.

No seriously though I think we all miss him,his record speaks for itself and it would be a shame if he followed Taka into retirement.

Plus I want a mountain man around! Someone huge, like Akebono, Musashimaru, Konishiki. Maybe Towonoyama will make it up the ranks.

Don't get me wrong: I like and appreciate speed, agility, technique, like Asashoryu. But I want to see the two go head to head. (Sign of approval)

Yes I agree Yoavo,Sumo needs both its great and small men-If only for diversity.

i wonder if we will ever see another big hawiian in sumo. clearly not in the near future, but i always found them quite fun to root for, especially akebono.

currently i am moving between being tired of the long yokozuna layoffs making me think musa should retire and get it over with, and still wanting an american around to root for. (besides sentoryu, that is. i'll still be rooting for him.

of course i like everybody and want them all to do well, but i've always been a hometown kind of sports fan, and hawaii/missouri is about as hometown as it gets for me in sumo. well that and aichi (my wife's home prefecture.)

i love the entrance of europeans and surge of strong mongolians too, but i still wish another american would make his way through the ranks.
