I have seen remarks about chess (Fisher, ratings ...) again and again and i wonder (i never thought about that), if there is a connection between sumo and chess. So what is your skill ? (hope i got my first poll right)
-
blame NSK on their pressure on rikishi to have a fake match?

And BTW, Fisher is the greatest of all. Only the great Kasper (ok, thats not a joke in English) and Capa could match his skill. And Fisher was not stupid either. Many of the things he did, promoted chess (and increased the price money). (i secretly wonder, if there is a correlation between sumo fans and chess players. Maybe i start a poll about this.) -

There has been said so many offtopics, so i am free to add some: * Europeans do not know a little bit of Mongolian history (about Dschingis Khan and his achievenesses, his sons and grandsons, the four empires, the chinese and the propaganda...) * when i first realized, that Mongolia was totally different from what i thought, i moved my (internet) location to Ulan Bator. If this is offending someone, i would change it back to Stuttgart, but i feel myself as a ambassador to mongolia in Germany back to ozumo * i dont think, that there are plenty of mongolian wrestlers, who could have also become Yokuzuna in ozumo. * Of course Asashoryu's most important goal is 32, but still being the sole Yokuzuna has merrits for him. I also think, that he is more Japanese, then you may think. -
Sorry, i am Asamoe, but we use the same avatar from the standard library. And i would never provide a link in japanese.

I personally have the opinion, that people in the forum tend to overreact. When Asashoryu only won 1 of the first three bashos, "everyone" was talking of a new era, of Asashoryu winning only 1-2 bashos a year ... Now the opposite is the case. It will never be like 2004, but Asashoryu will play a dominant role in the future.
-
And this is exactly what they are doing. Of course with the rank thing. In a "normal" basho, the four highest ranked rikishi should fight a round robin on the days 12-15. Due to the injury of Tochiazuma, he will not take part this time (Clapping wildly...)
-
BTW, is your aim to make the torikumi the way, that the basho is most boring or most exciting ?
-
Thank you very much. The question mark was a polite question mark
-
Asashoryu vs Hakuho is defenitely on the last day ?
-
Maybe i am a bit nitpicky here, but Tochiazuma did NOT get a 12-3 Jun-Yusho
-
Has anyone news about Wakanosato ? It would be very sad, if he falls down the banzuke again, after he recovered from the last injury
-
The movies are of excellent quality, and as far as i can tell complete. Did this link exist in previous bashos, too ?

This is the world championship of the best teams in the world. Great teams (Turkey, Belgium, Ireland, Russia, Kameroon...) are not present and for half of the teams it is already a success to have qualified. Poland did their best and fighted until the end. But i was a bit surprised, that they lost their first game. I am very satisfied with the game of our team yesterday, especially with the fighting spirit after so many missed goals.

This at least is a predicition i dont believe. As long as i remember (which is not so long, but) Miyabiyama has always been a 8-9 sanyaku. I dont see a reason why this should change, especially with strong opposition. He will have no chance to win, but may get a promotion. Baruto will realize, that beating up M10 is something complete different than sanyaku and will finish along the mk/kk-line. Tochiazuma will get his kk, but will slow down afterwards (like he did in Hatsu (I am not worthy...) ) Asashoryu is still the best and has the biggest chances for yusho, i would give him approx. 50%. I also believe, that Hakuho will not get the yusho, despite his strong form at the moment. It is just too early for him. Kaio will fight for the mk/kk; he is simply too old for yusho, but Chiyotaikai may be there for a surprise.
-
This basho participation was slim, due to workload: Chaingang: out in round 1 ISP: 13-2, but which is not super-great either, as almost everyone is kk. Maybe i will get a Juryu promotion ?
-
That is impressive, but what is the highest position of a rikishi in his SECOND makuuchi basho. Second basho in makuuchi
-
Maybe i was a bit too loud here, but i still think, that the probability, that Miyabiyama will win this basho is no more than 50%.
-
I have problems using the search function, but i think Asojima was refering to the record of most bashos in Makuuchi without kyujo. ( why do i not find a single artice with Kyokhushuzan and kyujo in Ozumo ? )
-
Just checking again, but there does not seem to be another thread saying, that Hakuho goes kyujo.
-
A bit supring, as there are still 3 players undefeated in ISP.
-
If you are referring to the law of large numbers, the large number are much larger, than you (or i) will expect. Of course not. But in my opinion, the probability, that Kaio becomes Yokuzuna trippled from 0.1% to 0.3% and for Chiyotaikia from 1% to 3%. And i also have the impression like Doitsuyama, that most of the Yokuzuna became Yokuzuna in "vacuums". Do anyone has a statistics about that ?
-
This actually is the chance for promotion for ANY of the Ozeki, even Kaio, when Asashoryu will not be at full strength in Nagoya/kyujo
-
Ok, i post this, after Baruto got defeated today, but i was sure before hand. The difference between Juryu und Makuuchi and Sanyaku is very big and every rikishi i remember in my "sumo watching career" faced a point, where he bounced back. Though i see Baruto as an excellent Ozeki shot, i doubt, that he will make 12 wins this basho nor be Ozeki in one year.
-
The only reason, why this is true for Asasekiryu and not for everybody else, is that he cannot fight against Asashoryu.
-
Admittedly it is possible, that it happened this way; But the problem with conspiracy theory, imho is, that people believe, that every theory, which is not impossible is automatically true. Talking with these people, what do you think about the theory, that KAio is still a very experienced rikishi, who could win against a 20 (?) year old and Tochiazuma is in direct competition a sound opponent, even to Asashoryu ?
