  2. Could it be that the crowd and press failed to notice the "disgrace" because there wasn't one? Doing one job, playing by the rules, trying win your match is rarely considered disgraceful. How fickle the people on this forum can be. It hasn't been so very long that everyone was bemoaning how boring sumo was going to be with only the "workman like sumo" of Hakuho, he just didn't hae the flare or the chutpah of Asashoryu. My, my, my how the times have changed.
  3. The grace and dignity of sumo as you so poetically put it surrounds it, from the beautiful display of the kesho mawashi during the dohyo-iri, to the ritualistic performance of the Yokozuna's dohyo iri to the brilliant colorful costumes of the gyoji it is all pomp and circumstance. Make no mistake however these men are warriors every bit as much as the Samurai of feudal Japan, they just don't use swords and the results of their contests are rarely, if ever fatal. They are nonetheless warriors and a warrior only has, and should only have one goal, to win. Win using all allowable techniques since this is after all a "civilized" contest there are after all rules involved. None of Hakuho's techniques, or Asashoryu's for that matter were ever illegal. Sometimes the necessity of a particular technique may be questionable by those of us who sit on our duffs hundreds or thousands of miles away and usually time shifted from the action but we weren't there to make the decision that the rikishi have to make in mere seconds. This is a contact sport, a serious, for real, contatct sport between men of incredible size, varying abilities and mentalities and personalities that don't have time to worry about the sense or sensibilities of their audience, either foreign or domestic. Pop yourself a bowl of corn, grab a beverage of choice and sit back and watch it in comfort or if the exhibition of violence is too much for you don't watch it, but for cryin' out loud don't call for a man to give up; his livelihood just for doing his job, and doing it well if i may say so! Back to the original topic of the thread, Hell No it's not time for Hakuho to retire. I look forward to many years of intense competition between he and Harumafuji. I will also take great pleasure if Myogiryu and/or Jokoryu can live up to their promise and elevate themselves to the Yokozuna level very soon, it's been a long time since it's been crowded at the very top.
  4. This is my fourth year spent mentoring my grandson, who has Aspberger's Syndrome, in his home schooling. We started home schooling him when he reached 7th grade and during that year and his 8th grade year we finished the day with plenty of time for me to still spend a reasonable amount of time on my sumo picks during bashos. He reached the freshman year of high school last year and I continued to try and work in my full sumo games schedule as well but it was a tight stretch and I didn't truly have the time needed to prepare for all of my games. The long and short of it is that this year as schools is once again getting underway and we have an even more full schedule than last year, I am going to have to trim my daily games down to a minimum and unfortunately this one is one I will have to forego. It is with regret that I must intai from G(K/M)A.
  5. Surprise, surprise, surprise, I remembered to enter this game without having to wait to get a reminder. Hopefully I will get a better score by not having to do it in a hurry! 1. A 2. A 3. A 4. A 5. A 6. A 7. A 8. B 9. A 10. B 11. B 12. B 13. A 14. A 15. A 16. B 17. B 18. B 19. B 20. B 21. A
  6. Well, now that I can truly and sincerely NOT pick Goeido, I too think it will be Day 14: Takekaze
  7. Ok, to put it straight for stubbornness' sake: Myogiryu can't meet Goeido - they're both from Sakaigawa-beya. I get blind sided like that all the time dammit. Despite the similarity in shikona I use to try to insist on putting Kisenosato up against Wkanosato also. Thanks, for future reference I will put this one on a virtual sticky on my windows desktop.
  8. I'm from Kansas, not Missouri but I grew up on the banks of the Missouri River so I suppose some of that infamous stubboness rubbed off on me. I'll stick with Day 13: Goeido
  9. Day 10: Kyokutenho for me as well.
  10. Day 9: Kotooshu Since I've jumped back on the Ozeki train, now they will probably give him 10Ho!
  11. Day 8: Kyokutenho Nobody ever accused the MIB of being logical.
  12. Indeed this one should race into the station. Day 5: Hakuho
  13. Thanks for all your efforts in running this confusing but addictive game. I too will be looking forward to Aki. Bonne chance avec l'ordinateur!
  14. Day 1: Kisenosato Day 3: Harumafuji

  16. As is obvious by my 3-9 score, I haven't got a clue who they'll throw at him next. I always believed the raison d'etre for the joi' jin was to be cannon fodder for the nobility of the Makuuchi division but it's obvious after he mowed down 4 Ozekis, a Sekiwake and a Komosubi and made the Yokozuna mighty nervous that this cannon fires back. So maybe they're trying to protect the remaining Sanyaku. I strongly believe he should have already met Goeido and/or Homasho by virtue of their position but now I doubt that he will at all so I'll go with Day 13: Aoiyama
