Tochiazuma most definately LACKS FIGHTING SPIRIT lol! His lackluster appearances on the Dohyo the past couple years should be enough proof of that. (and no appearing the first 1,2 days and then deciding you can't hack it doesn't qualify as "putting yourself on the line"), to go alongside his apparent unorthidox and somewhat dangerous ( especially considering his "glass" like durability) training regimin he puts himself through, running and sprinting at around 350lbs!! you gotta be kidding me thats just idiotic! Seeing as how your knees are already made of "glass" be smarter than that!  His skills around the mawashii are garbage also (aside from "yoru"-ing) so maybe if he didnt get thrown so often he wouldnt have shoulder problems either! lol BAM! problem solved! Train smarter not harder, and as I've said before "Do you wanna compete or do you just wanna be injured" Tochiazuma will never reach his potential, and I'll be damned should he ever get back to Ozeki! -

P.s. All this talk by Chiyotaikai about "Oh im getting older" and such thats bullcrap also! Just sounds too me like he's fed up and doesn't want to take it anymore, wonder how he'll react if he loses his Ozeki rank too??????-

That's not lack of fighting spirit, that's lack of being smart and protecting your body.

If Tochiazuma is lacking in one area it is his refusal to take the time off to heal his injuries.

His training isn't the major problem, it's his refusing to take some time off to heal such incredibly severe injuries that is. That's got nothing to do with Fighting Spirit, that's got everything to do with being smart.

I am going to agree to disagree with you on this point. If Tochiazuma had no fighting spirit, he would have thrown in the towel before he ever made Ozeki. Or he would have thrown in the towel when he made Ozeki, got hurt, and dropped to Sekiwake. He did not do that. He did not quit and he made ozeki and he made it back to Ozeki after only one tournament as a Sekiwake. He may not make the Ozeki rank again if he falls down to the Maegashira ranks but I for one, do not question his fighting spirit. :-)

It is again a bit off-topic, but

i also think, that calling Tochiazuma "no fighting spirit" is not fair.

Of course you could say, that it needs special skills to become Yokuzuna, espicially a healthy and robust body and that this is the skill, that Tochiazuma lacks, but definitely no more.

Ryu-kun, you slipped a bit here. Your Tochiazuma won Yusho at the Fukuoka last year so there was a flash of excellence overcoming all the injuries he has been suffering in this past year or two.

When Tochiazuma was coming up the ladder, the rikishi he aspired most was Wakanohana III, his Meiji Nakano School senior. Initially their style looked remarkably similar - lots of ottsukes and quick moves. But being rather smaller than most opponents it just took a toll on them. They both needed to have very healthy lower body power so once their legs could not sustain the pressure, they were no longer successful. It's all physical but accompanied with quite a bit of mental anguishes.

Go easy on Azuma, Ryu. Deep down he is just your type of guy.
