Akinomaki 41,710 Posted March 10, 2024 Takakeisho as top in individual kensho had more on his 4th last bout of the day than any other ozeki, and the last ozeki bout was only 3rd, because Ura is kensho no.2 this basho - a top rank for him so far. The new sumo hall on day 2 is on the last bout as the last kensho banner of the day, I had expected them there the whole basho, but they go for Ura all the way, today they were on his Hoshoryu bout, but not not as the last - Moderna was last there, though scheduled as before Hirakuza sumo hall. Tomorrow Moderna is on Kotonowaka as the last scheduled - LDH is no longer sponsor. Tomorrow Takerufuji has the chance for a record size first bouts pack vs. Endo, who has 2 from Nagatanien, 2 from a book store and 2 more, plus the standard one from Mochikichi for the first bout, which he got today. Nagatanien for the lower staff has 2 each, Endo, Atamifuji and Asanoyama, and 3 for the yokozuna. Tama Home on day 1 had 5 on the last 2 bouts, 3 on the 3rd last, the 2 lower ozeki only got 1 from them - tomorrow only on the last 2 bouts and only one. Job firm Hot Staff had 3 on Tobizaru, tomorrow 2, they also have 2 on Ura, 1 on Hokutofuji (today 2). Takayasu has 3 fix from Tachihi. Yusho tea provider Itoen is on the last bout, dohyo salt maker Hakata no shio is on Mitakeumi now: will he become the new salt shaker in makuuchi? Hoshoryu has none from Takasu here in Osaka, 2 fix from heya sponsor Manhattan bread, but they don't put kensho on Meisei anymore. Onosato has 2 fix now. The new Amaha no yu from Omihachiman was on Takayasu today with 2, but they switch, tomorrow one on Tobizaru-Midorifuji. Local entertainment company Yoshimoto kogyo - who provide also a yusho prize - also switch, as does the local NSK tozaikai. Day 1 https://www.sumo.or.jp/pdf/honbasho/kansen/torikumi/2403_01.pdf 29: Nishikigi 20: Takakeisho 16: Ura 12: Abi 9: Takayasu 9: Kotonowaka 6: Mitakeumi 6: Roga 5: Kinbozan 4: Onosato
Akinomaki 41,710 Posted March 11, 2024 Takerufuji and Atamifuji made it into the rankings, kensho no.3 Asanoyama pulled even with no.2 Ura with a win against no.4. Tomorrow Moderna on Onosato-Hiradoumi. Nagatanien is not very generous: the 2 for Asanoyama are canceled for the bout with Terunofuji instead of added to his 3. Akinomaki 41,710 Posted March 12, 2024 (edited) Takerufuji with only 1 again didn't stay in the rankings. Tomorrow Mochikichi adds another to his standard first bout 1. Abi with a smaller pack now was nearly caught by Ura, who has big packs every day and already won 2 of them. Tomorrow Moderna on Hoshoryu (vs.Oho), the only extra kensho in addition to his fix 2. And a very rare case: Kensho no.1 vs. no.2 tomorrow has a bigger pack than the last bout, against only Meisei. NSK Tozaikai so far as the only one on the bout: day 1 Onosho-Tamawashi, 2 Wakamotoharu-Meisei, 3 Wakamotoharu-Takanosho, 4 Tamawashi-Kinbozan Day 3 https://www.sumo.or.jp/pdf/honbasho/kansen/torikumi/2403_03.pdf 46: Terunofuji 33: Takakeisho 29: Nishikigi 28: Abi 27: Ura 17: Takayasu 16: Kotonowaka 16: Asanoyama 13: Onosato 11: Hoshoryu 11: Mitakeumi Day 2 big pack: Terunofuji o Edited March 12, 2024 by Akinomaki
Akinomaki 41,710 Posted March 13, 2024 With the 2 favorite's biggest pack of the day, Takakeisho jumps to the top. Meisei with his yokozuna pack only just makes it to the top 10. His sekiwake win on day 1 was not enough to get him there, that had only one kensho, the one fix for Daieisho. The other sekiwake Wakamotoharu also has only 1 fix, komusubi Abi 2 - and the other one still 0 - Nishikigi. Tomorrow Terunofuji with even less popular Oho gets another small pack - if he still gets any. Takakeisho against popular Atamifuji again gets more and no.2 vs. no.4 Ura-Kotonowaka with also the Moderna kensho is about the same size as the last bout. Day 4 https://www.sumo.or.jp/pdf/honbasho/kansen/torikumi/2403_04.pdf 52: Takakeisho 46: Terunofuji 32: Abi 29: Nishikigi 27: Ura 26: Asanoyama 24: Kotonowaka 18: Onosato 17: Takayasu 17: Meisei Day 3 packs: Ura, Onosato o o
Akinomaki 41,710 Posted March 14, 2024 (edited) The meager pack and Oho generally without kensho (only 1 from Daieisho) means he's not in the rankings and we'd have to count the list - should be 15. Atamifuji had 8 on day 2 vs. Kirishima and 7(!) on day 4 vs. Tobizaru - nothing much to gain from a win against Kirishima - so today 14. Atamifuji since day 4 has been upgraded to 3 from Nagatanien, like Terunofuji gets. The joint biggest pack was actually Ura's, not Takakeisho's - 15. Hoshoryu is back in the rankings, the win yesterday was not enough for that - Osaka is a bad place for kensho, especially for the Mongolian ozeki. Day 5 https://www.sumo.or.jp/pdf/honbasho/kansen/torikumi/2403_05.pdf 52: Takakeisho 46: Terunofuji 42: Ura 36: Abi 29: Nishikigi 29: Atamifuji 26: Asanoyama 24: Kotonowaka 23: Hoshoryu 23: Takayasu Most likely canceled: 3 for Tsurugisho and 2 for Kinbozan. Day 4 Shimazuumi had 1. Tomorrow Terunofuji on his last bout has again the most kensho, Takerufuji for the first time is not in the first bout - and thus has no kensho on it, today he had 2. Moderna on Onosato-Meisei. Day 4 packs Abi, Takerufuji (2) o o Edited March 14, 2024 by Akinomaki
Akinomaki 41,710 Posted March 15, 2024 (edited) Takanosho of course had not enough to be in the rankings, even with a bigger pack than recently. With Tobizaru tomorrow a real big pack again for the last bout - likely plenty of redistribution - and who will become the Nagatanien replacement then? Moderna on Abi-Hoshoryu. Atamifuji vs. Oho only the 3 from Nagatanien - no other sponsor for him yet and Oho of course has none. Takerufuji again later on and in danger of no kensho, but the brown jacket tozaikai guys put their kensho on his bout, today on Sadanoumi-Kitanowaka, day 5 on Ichiyamamoto-Kotoshoho. dingo 1,473 Posted March 15, 2024 (edited) Will be really interesting to see who will be the kensho champion at the end of the basho. If as Akinomaki said Osaka is not a good kensho earning place for the Mongolian ozeki, then logically it should be either Takakeisho or Kotonowaka. However, if both of them lose too many bouts, do we get a surprise winner? Ura? Atamifuji? Abi? Or the dark horse Oonosato? It's almost as exciting as the real yusho race Edited March 15, 2024 by dingo
Akinomaki 41,710 Posted March 16, 2024 20 hours ago, Akinomaki said: With Tobizaru tomorrow a real big pack again for the last bout - likely plenty of redistribution In such a case the redistribution gets reported: of the 27 for the last bout, 12 go to the new last bout Takakeisho-Nishikigi, 3 to Kotonowaka-Meisei and 2 to Asanoyama-Daieisho, the remaining 10 are canceled o - none to a bout of the Mongolian ozeki
Akinomaki 41,710 Posted March 16, 2024 Takakeisho is the first to profit from the withdrawal of the yokozuna and most likely he'll be the one to finish top. Kirishima will probably withdraw as well, would be ironic if Tobizaru gets robbed again tomorrow, with him Kirishima has the biggest pack so far. The ozeki will now get the big packs in turn, also the Mongolian ones, but for them smaller. Onosato already dropped out of the rankings, even a win would not have been enough, just as Takayasu with a decent pack is below now. Akinomaki 41,710 Posted March 17, 2024 (edited) Those below ozeki have close to no chance to finish in the top 2, they have not enough big packs in reach later on - though now they still have. The 2 Japanese ozeki are fix to finish top, unless one drops out. Terunofuji might drop out of the rankings in the end. Day 8 https://www.sumo.or.jp/pdf/honbasho/kansen/torikumi/2403_08.pdf 103: Takakeisho 69: Kotonowaka 47: Abi 47: Asanoyama 46: Terunofuji 42: Ura 38: Atamifuji 34: Hoshoryu 34: Mitakeumi 31: Tobizaru Tomorrow very evenly distributed between the ozeki, a 30% smaller one for Hoshoryu and a just tiny bit bigger one for Kirishima. The much bigger top one is on no.2. vs. no.3 - Ura-Asanoyama. Moderna on Onosato-Wakamotoharu, NSK tozaikai on Churanoumi-Sadanoumi. Takerufuji-Abi has 4, 2 extra sponsors put kensho on it. Akinomaki 41,710 Posted March 18, 2024 (edited) Ura with 17 as the biggest, Kirishima may need another last bout win to get into the rankings at all, he had 7+3 from Meisei and Oho, tomorrow only 4 on his bout. Hoshoryu in the last bout has much less than Takakeisho in the bout before - Nagatanien switches from Kotonowaka to Takakeisho for day 10, which is odd, they usually switch substitutes only when they lose. Takerufuji-Onosato also gets 2 from Nagatanien, likely meant for the new boy, 6 in all on that bout. Atamafuji after today has again only the 3 from Nagatanien on his bout. Moderna on the last bout, vs. Wakamotoharu. Tozaikai on Roga-Shodai. Akinomaki 41,710 Posted March 19, 2024 Again someone gets the biggest pack who is way below in kensho yet, Daieisho doubled his account, but is still a bit behind, similar to Onosato - probably they'll all catch Terunofuji, but still need luck to be in the rankings in the end. A win for Onosato tomorrow has him fix there though. Kotonowaka with unpopular Oho only got a small pack today, but 50% more than what Hiradoumi got for beating hapless Kirishima. Day 10 https://www.sumo.or.jp/pdf/honbasho/kansen/torikumi/2403_10.pdf 115: Takakeisho 85: Kotonowaka 70: Ura 57: Asanoyama 49: Hoshoryu 47: Abi 46: Terunofuji 41: Mitakeumi 41: Atamifuji 38: Takayasu Tomorrow Nagatanien sticks with Takakeisho(vs. Onosato) - and with Takerufuji(-Kotonowaka): Moderna on that bout as well, Hoshoryu and Kirishima combined have about the same number of kensho as that bout, which has about half of the last bout. Tozaikai on Takanosho-Nishikigi - really nobody else would show interest for that.
Akinomaki 41,710 Posted March 20, 2024 That jump to no.5 may not be all - Onosato can get to 3 tomorrow. Terunofuji is as good as out of the list, but Takerufuji likely won't be able to replace him. Nagatanien tomorrow is back from day 10 loser Takakeisho to winner Kotonowaka, Moderna also again on Kotonowaka - and again the biggest last bout pack in reach for Onosato - if they go on like this, he'll finish top. Takerufuji has the smallest ozeki pack vs. Hoshoryu. Tozaikai on Nishikifuji-Tamawashi. Akinomaki 41,710 Posted March 21, 2024 The race between the top 2 is still wide open, but the winner of their bout tomorrow will go into a decisive lead. Hoshoryu with a yusho relevant bout has nearly as much as the last bout with only irrelevant Kirishima, Moderna is on this Hoshoryu-Gonoyama bout, and 2 from Nagatanien! Asanoyama stays on 2, but Atamifuji goes to 4 by them, though both have the same result - the new CM seems to be quite popular. Akinomaki 41,710 Posted March 23, 2024 That was a quick change - nobody can catch Kotonowaka now, Takakeisho is fix for no.2. Depending on how many kensho are on Onosato-Hoshoryu, Onosato can still catch Asanoyama, the winner of that bout will at least catch Ura, who is fix for no.5.
